What is your opinion on parrots and TV? I was told by someone that since parrots have the intelligence of a toddler, TV can be good for them like shows for little kids. They mentioned Sesame Street in particular.
I've been turning on Sesame Street for Peeko every day, and he makes all kinds of noise and talks. He really seems to enjoy it. :)

I have a 21 month old daughter, so we watch PBS kids shows almost everyday. I've heard Odin say hi neighbor he got it from Daniel Tigers Neighborhood (spin off of mr rogers)

My amazon seems to really enjoy watching tv. I have an 8 year old son, so we watch a fair amount of children's programming. If I sit on the sofa to watch tv with Ollie on my lap, he will climb as close as he can to the tv to watch it better. I think Ollie's favorite is to watch youtube videos of other parrots, he gets pretty excited and makes a lot of cute sounds.

Mishka my AG loves wathcing TV, when he sees birds, he says mommy look at the birdies.......If a dog begins to bark, he says Oh mommy, listen to that barking
If a telephone rings he says hello hello okay bye bye
Mishla love the Discovery Channel

Weirdest thing, when training Mishka at night (to talk), I leave the TV on, it does not disturb him at all.
If he turns towards the TV, and listens, he picks up words from there, and he learns from there.....

Haha. All these stories about parrots watching TV are adorable. :) I suppose it can be a good way for them to "interact" with something else? And like antoinette said, some parrots might pick up words from it. Although you might not want to have it on MTV or something.... lol.

Yipe have to be very selective when choosing a channel
If we are watching a movie, we choose family viewing, not the origional, so all the swearing is eliminated
:grey:

Yeah, I find it a bit unattractive when people teach their birds to swear on purpose. Thats like encouraging your two-year-old to curse like a sailor, seeing that parrots will repeat everything they're taught often every day, and loudly at that.

LOL. I never saw the movie "Pulp Fiction" so I rented it. There was NO WAY I was going to watch that move in the same room as Valentino. The swearing in that movie was almost an art form and the violence oh my. Yes, I was sick enough to laugh as some of the freak stuff that happened during this movie but no way...there was NO WAY I was going to expose this movie to a innocent baby parrot. LOL

Growing up, Jade always liked children's programming and laughed along with the kids. Her favorite movies were the Land Before Time series, but she always got excited whenever we watched TV because it was a family activity. She'd cluck and coo and laugh no matter what was on.

At my current home, the TV is in the basement and Jade doesn't like hanging out down there. We have been bringing Henry down to watch TV with us and she isn't very interested in what is on TV... she is MUCH more interested in the popcorn. If we aren't eating popcorn, she just likes to sit quietly and have her head scratched. She was scared by a loud action movie the other day and wanted to be put back.

I do leave the radio on for the birds, usually NPR. Henry's started mumbling in a quiet voice, which I think she either picked up from the radio or from pedestrians walking by outside.

Also: both birds seem uninterested in the parrot videos I've showed them on YouTube!

We don't have an actual TV, but we have tried to show Kiwi videos of parrots on YouTube and stuff to see what his reaction is. He doesn't care one iota about things moving across the screen, he's more interested in trying to pry the buttons up off the keyboard! From reading other posts, it sounds like we may just have an oddball parrot lol. I can't imagine tv doing them any harm, but I would probably stay away from anything violent or that depicts predatory animals. Parrots can pick up on emotions, so anything violent seems unwise, and anything with lions and tigers would probably scare the crap out of a parrot lol.
