Parrots
Beaker- 6 year old cockatiel
Leonardo da Birdie- 11 year old cockatiel
So I thought this would be a funny thread to make since I've lived with or encountered a variety of parrots. They are almost never the stereotype you expect parrots to be (they are much better), but I will give a few examples in case this makes no sense. Basically what the bird books never told you. ;)

What you expect them to learn: Expansive phrases, "Help, I've been turned into a parrot," anything you can possibly teach them. The Star Wars theme song.
What they do learn: Curse words, NSFW noises, and the fire alarm, all at once, while family is visiting.
(Shoutout to my grandma's African Gray for this one)

What you expect: A cuddly feather fluff.
What you get: Bite. Bite bite. bite. Now pet me. Nope, changed my mind. Bite.
(Especially with my cockatiel, Leo. He doesn't really /bite/ but he nibbles my fingers.)

What you expect: Feeding them a variety of fruits and veggies and them loving every bite. Knowing your bird will eat better than you do.
What you get: "But I want what youuu have." -throws broccoli on the ground-

What you expect: Them to poop in one place. Easy to clean up.
What you get: "How did that even get up there???"

What you expect: Pretty singing all of the time.
What you get: SQUAWK!

I love my feather nuggets. Just is fun to poke fun at them from time to time. :D

What you expect: A wonderfully endearing companion who loves all your friends and wants to be social with everyone.
What you get: All of your friends refusing to ever visit again because of the "little winged demon"

Geez, all the above!

Plus...
What I expected - A bird who sings opera arias, or at least show tunes, or at LEAST some Spanish songs (all of which he hears all the time).
What I got - A bird who sings explicit J-Lo lyrics (which he heard/saw sometimes on the music channel I *USED* to leave on for him when I was away). I'll spare you his video.

Fun thread!

I kind of want to see his video now! Lolol.

My apologies to those who have seen it before...
And to those of you who are about to see it!
The Rbird does his best performances at dusk, so pardon the awful film quality.
This is his favorite J-Lo to cover.
"Booty"
He picked out the following phrases...
Booty, booty. It's a big, bigggg booty. Whatcha got a big booty? On the dance floor. Bootayyyy!!!
Yesssssssssss, I'm proud of the little stinker.

The RB can spit some lines :)

Since we're talking about singing, I had to share this. Parker singing I love you a bushel and a peck from guys and dolls. He gets the first two lines for he most part. When you get him going he'll get the doodle oodle oodle part. It's cute!

OHHHH MY GAWWWWD!!!!!
Guys and Dolls... that's all I ever wanted!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh*

I love it.

What you expect: an amazon who says all kinds of cute words.

What you get: an amazon who used to belong to a confirmed bachelor and does a very good porn star imitation.

I impulse purchased goose(bad idea) thinking that he would just be a small snuggly companion who talked and flew around.
What j got was a small feathered tyrant who rules all aspects of my life and has a never ending steam if poop in all the wrong places also he loves to pick up the fruits and veggies he doesn't like and fly above me and drop them on me like a nutritious drive by.
But I ciouldnt love him more.

What I expected early on when I was courting the Mrs, a normal pet that didn't bite or attack people, poop everywhere, chew stuff to shreds, scream ppl to deafness.
What I got, the Rickey Bird.
:30:

What I expected: To get a few finches to have birds again and stay away from parrots.
What I got: 3 bird rooms full of parrots, finches, and other softbills.

First parrot Kiwi the Senegal. I THOUGHT I would get a playful sweet bird that would make me laugh.

I GOT- A crazy parrot that hated most people was not playful and did not make me laugh. She was very loving to me. She was a one person bird. RIP I miss you.

Sprinkles my baby black capped conure. Well I got what I expected this time. He is silly, full of personality, nippy as a puppy, and so much fun. Did I mention he is nippy. Maybe I was not expecting so much nipping. He is also very playful. He is learning to talk better than I expected.

What I expected: loud, only into one person, petulant and dumb as a fence post. In otherwords exactly like my last parrot, Maxie.
What I got: Salty.
