I'm finally going to pick up my baby at the breeder's tomorrow late morning/early afternoon!

Needless to say, I'm over the moon!! Does anyone have any advice for helping him to feel comfortable when we get him home? My parents have had lots of experience with parrots, but I personally have not. I live with them, so of course they'll be here for support, but I'd like to know as much as possible for myself.
Is there anything you guys recommend or don't recommend when bringing a parrot home? I've read contradicting suggestions on other sites about whether to leave the bird alone to let it settle, or to give it continuous attention from the start.

Only give him as much attention as you will normally be giving him. When we first got ours we left the cage open and let him explore. Also, make sure to start him off with fresh veggies so he will get used to them. Ours absolutely loves carrots, and also gets broccoli and kale daily. If you don't already have a happy hut I would suggest getting one of those. Yogi loves his and sleeps in it every night. Good look with your new baby :)

You must be so excited. I guess just see how nervous he is, ours came home Thursday, and has adjusted very well. We kept the cage open and let him explore inside and the playtop, he was eating alot and drinking pretty much right away, we played with him on and off but let him have his own time too.

Thanks guys!
I'm home all day every day and rarely leave the house, so he'll be getting lots of attention. I just don't want to overwhelm him in the beginning.
I have a happy hut in his cage :) I will be offering him fruit & veggies as well. The breeder has weaned him onto parakeet food, so he has that in his cage, as well as the conure pellet food I'm going to transition him to.
Unfortunately I cant leave the cage open for him to explore - we have dogs, cats, etc so he can only come out of the cage when he's with me, not unsupervised.
I guess it really will depend on how he handles the move. The breeder has moved the clutch between cages several times and says they have handled it well. I hope the same is true for when he comes home!

He's here, he's here!!! :D :D :D
Went to the breeder's house, and was presented with three beautiful babies to choose from. One of them immediately climbed up onto my shoulder and settled down for a preen. Obviously the choice was made for me! He rode the whole way home snuggled into my neck, asleep. What a perfect little lovebug...<3

Welcome home Peeko. LOve the pictures and he is beautiful. Nice cage set up as well. Thank you for posting the pictures. Aren't they just beyond cute:)

Thank you! They are. I'm totally head over heels in love with him!

Too cute!!! Its an amazing feeling huh. I could not believe the day I got my Charlie. I was like "OMG, I have a sun conure on my lap" Enjoy! And welcome Peeko!!!

Thanks guys :D
He is so sweet! He really seems like he'd rather be out with me than in his cage. I think he misses his siblings, poor baby :( He's doing good in his new cage though! He's eaten and drank, and explored most of the perches and toys. But he's a little clumsy oaf :p

Great for you! Peeko is adorable! Im getting my bird tomorrow so im also excited :D

He is really adorable, congrats. You are going to love being owned by your new Yellow Sided GCC.

Thanks Bobioden, I already do! :D

Kakarikis are beautiful birds, happycat. What color is your's? :D

Peeko is beautiful!

Congratulations on bringing your baby home...

Do take him out of his cage, whenever you like... Conures thrive on attention..

When people recommend leaving a bird for a few days, it's normally an older bird... Yours is a baby..

My little Squirt is out almost all day, when I'm at home... She's also very good in her cage, when I'm busy or at work...

Even a young conure can bite, and I teach mine to be gentle by giving a squeak, and as soon as they let go, I say good girl/boy - gentle...

I have had and still have many species of parrots... The green cheek is still my favourite...

Thanks guys :) He's a little sweetheart. Snuggled into the crook of my neck as I type this <3
He's absolutely in love with his spiral perch. He seems apprehensive of the happy hut though - he hasn't figured out that he can turn around in it, and he tries to back out...and almost falls =p He catches himself though.
