Hi everyone,

Mango has been doing great. He will be 5 months in a couple of days and has been a joy to have. He laughs and blows kisses so far, he is really a funny funny bird. We are a little concerned about his beak though. My parents Quakers beaks don't look like his and i dont know if it's because technically he is still a baby? It looks like it has 2 seperate layers or like it can be peeled i'm not sure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Yup, near perfect photo of a beak that is naturally chipping near the outer edges. Like a Human finger nail, as they grow into the 'Working Area' along the outer edge they break /chip /peel as they get caught on harder surfaces.

Your Parrot is going to be different then another individual's Parrot. It's their mind game that they use on us Human's to drive us nuts...

While this is normal. I have reduced it to almost never seeing it. By feeding veggies, especially ones with vitamin A like red hot chili peppers, by lots of baths, and feeding done protein like scrambled or boiled eggs, some boiled or well cooked chicken, and good nuts like walnut once in awhile. Also by taking them outside in their travel cage, or rolling their cage out, light shade, and stay right with them, for 15 min or longer during nice weather. Even in light shade, I never put them in full sun, they get amazing bennifit to feathers !! So lush and bright!
Your Quaker us soooo cute!

I second Laura's suggestion of hot peppers, which have lots of Vitamin A. Parrots have 1 taste bud to 100 of ours, so they can take a lot more heat in food. Saltys chop recipe always includes a lot jalapeo, habenero and ghost peppers. He loves 'em. And his beak chipping went way down. It is a natural process, but diet can improve it. Her other suggestions are also solid.

Ghost peppers ?
I hope you wear glove when preparing his chop.

And NO kisses after he eats it.
