Hey!

Iā€™m back with a question.
I donā€™t know whatā€™s happening by my neighbourhood but sometimes it smells bad.
I donā€™t like when my house smells bad it disgusts me lol.

So the thing is:

Do you guys know anything for smelling good?
Candles I canā€™t, thereā€™s mambo.
Sprays I canā€™t, thereā€™s mambo.

The only solution I thought about is planting something like lavender? I donā€™t really know if it will make my house smell good...

So yeah, any ideas??

Thanks!

Plants with a scent seem to be safe (as long as your bird can't get to them easily). Some hand-soaps can also be safe, and they create a bit of a scent. I use Mrs. Meyers Lavender hand soap and have no issues so far....

Nice. Yeah but a hand soap wonā€™t make my house smell better right?

I know some will disagree, but I use electric scent warmers (the device only) and put a tbsp of coconut oil and then 10-15 drops of 100% pure essential oil (be sure NOT to get confused and buy fragrance oil which is cheaper and toxic artificial crap) in with it. Turn it on for 6 or so hours a day and top up the essential oils once or twice a week (clean out the whole dish weekly). Iā€™ve never had issues with Kiwi. My most common scent is sage but Iā€™ve also used jasmine, rose, saddle wood and patchouli before too. Just be sure not to use mint or citrus (orange, lemon etc...) or tea tree oils which apparently can irritate birds respiratory tracts, but lavender oil should be fine.

Although you are smart to use the natural stuff, it doesn't change the fact that people and birds absorb the oils into their blood-streams (hence, the efficacy of aroma therapy). Oils in the air are like medicine. I know that you haven't had issues, but knowing that these oils impact human's from a neurological and cardiovascular perspective means that a much smaller bird body (with much better lungs) is going to feel the effects as well.

That is why itā€™s important to research and be accepting of risks you take. I personally choose sage oil as the one I use most often for the properties it has and itā€™s relative safety. Lavender is also known for being a generally safe oil (since op mentioned it) with generally desirable effects. Common sense also applies- donā€™t use oil warmers 24/7, just long enough to warm the oil enough to diffuse the scent (I find about 6 hours a day works if it is cold enough the coconut oil has reverted to a solid and about 3-4 in hot weather). I wonā€™t use the kind that produce a mist around Kiwi at all, as those disperse the oils differently and at a greater range. The warmers are a much better option.
