Petrified Cockatoo

Please, I have just rescued a approximately 5 year old Lesser Sulfur Crested Cockatoo Named Tookey, She came to me due to her owner being lost in a house fire which Tookey lived in, Today My daughter was making toast and burnt it and the fire alarm sounded off.. Poor Tookey Just freaked! She screamed so loud and was flipping and going completely nuts inside her cage, I quickly shut the alarm off but she took a few to settle down, now she is just sitting on her highest perch shaking terribly and eyes darting everywhere.. I feel so helpless, anything i can do to help her coup with this trama? she has been through so much in the last few years that i just want her to find peace in living again..any suggestions would be very much appreciated, Thanks..

Tookey will know that you're also stressed out about what just happened so be calm around her. Talk to her calmly. Maybe sit close to her cage for a while so she can see you and the family acting normally. Hopefully she will calm down a little with time.
