Two Cockatiels: Rascal (Geraldine) and his baby brother named Coconut!
I noticed baby Coconut has TONS and tons of new feathers growing. It looks painful!

Tons of bloods feather shafts all over his body... even his crest... back, neck and chest.

Are these his adult feathers growing in? :D

He's isn't molting yet though.... I think he's almost 4 months old...

EDIT: It almost looks like the feathers he is growing in are dark grey?? I mean the very tip of the feathers sticking out of the shaft. I know the other dark parts are blood. I hope he doesn't lose his cinnamon coloring... does that ever happen?

Birds can be EXTREMELY irritable when either molting or growing in feathers. Might explain some of Coconut's aggressive behavior seen in some videos.

This too shall pass, and he will be rewarded with beautiful new feathers! Don't know enough about tiels to evaluate changes to coloration.

He looks like a porcupine right now :)

There are just so many! It is all over his entire body looks a little scary.

I was wrong though... I managed to get a closer look and the tips of the feathers are cinnamon, not dark grey like I initially thought. I LOVE the cinnamon coloring it's so striking.

I guess he won't molt until those spikes grow into feathers...

He is a spiked chicken. :o That's what I call mine when he's having a rough molt. It can be a hard time for them. Sounds like feathers are coming in. Soon a molt will follow.

I can't wait to take a before/after pic after he goes through his first molt :)
