Okay, so iv herd alot of debates on pine tree limbs for perches, its good its bad its poision its healthy.
So iv come come to ask does anyone use pine tree branches cut right off the tree?
I live in Spokane washington we have a million pine trees(I live in the woods:D) none are treated or sprayed and never have been. I always set the fids in the trees and they love it!! But I would like to ask is it safe for them to have a branch in the cage:09:
the reason I ask is im going through a "budget cut" I can't spend $100 on rios perches every month anymore:53: dang bird shreds everything haha:32:! Its her nature I understand so I can't stop her "excessive beaking at 1 1/2:)" im at around 150 a month in toys. I would love to find an aternative where she doesn't eat a hole in my wallet;) would a clean pine branch be okay? Or are their any other inexpencive perches online that I can buy in bulk for my angels:21:

Pine branches that have been baked shout be OK.....baking is to kill any bugs/beetles that bore into the bard/wood, before you bring them in your house.....

I think this guy is in your area, but it is a good place to find info of safe woods & plants..... http://www.mdvaden.com/bird_page.shtml

Good luck.....

Start making your own toys.

So after endless hours of calling around and serching I cut a couple limbs off put them in my dads new parts washer that gets things super clean has a high power sprayers and is super hot, no one is showing any signs of discomfort or dislike! The pine works! rio is still working on the first one:) the toys arnt a biggie they are a bit pricey okay alot haha but I have absoluetly no skills in making them :p
I have a lady who will make me some every month for cost of supplies now:)

Bree, if there is ever any parts solvent/cleaner run through that parts cleaner, you are taking a serious chance with your bird's health.....the high power of the sprayer can embed solvent residue in the wood.....once solvent is run through those machines, you really cannot get it out.....

I would advise against using fresh pine. maybe debarked and cured to get rid of the sap would be OK ,but there are many better choices that would hold up much better. Wild apple (not from an orchard where pesticides have been used) might be a good choice, once again i would cure it in the sun or in the attic first. I cut my own Dragonwood perches here in Fla. They are very popular and i sell tons to parrot owners and breeders. It doesn't cost much, the shipping is usually more than the perches. Too and macaw size stuff usually runs 2-2,50 per foot and last forever. PM me if your interested.
