Anyone know where I can buy some toy parts? I'm already looking at mysafebirdstore and they have a lot of great stuff and I plan to buy from them but they're also sold out of some stuff I'd like to get such as small cardboard boxes and such. Anyone know some other good stores?

Amazon.com! Here's a few links to things I found there:

Petsmart carries some decently priced toy parts:

Another thing you can do is head to the hardware store and buy some wooden dowels. They come in various sizes, round or square. Cut them up and drill holes, dye them with food coloring if desired, and there ya go. Be sure to get Poplar, not oak or pine. Downside: you need a drill and saw, and this can be a lot of work. I made my husband do it for me. ;)

But the best place to get toy parts: your local dollar store!!! They sell baby toys and cat toys, some of which make excellent bird toy parts. Some cooking tools are great (like measuring spoons, bamboo skewers if you cut off the points, chopsticks, wooden spoons, cupcake papers). They also sell some crafting supplies, make sure you get bird safe materials (most plastics, jute or hemp twine NON-treated, nothing the bird can choke on or hurt themselves on).

Also, paper and cardboard are easy to acquire. I recommend avoiding cardboard boxes that might have sat on a warehouse floor picking up chemicals or pesticides. Stick with cardboard that you're certain is clean and safe.

Taking apart old toys that are mostly destroyed is another great way to get parts. Salvage what can be re-purposed!

Thank you for the advice! Unfortunately he doesn't like hard toys so I'm pretty limited to paper, cardboard, and other light weight material.

lol.. sorry.... If I let my parrot out of his house, he believes everything he can grab is his own personal toy!

Try anything once, the things your bird likes, try them twice.

Let us know what you experimented with! and..... pics or didnt happen!

I buy from A Bird Toy, it's an Arkansas company. Lots of variety. I buy wooden and cardboard shredder pieces and put them on stainless steel skewers and hoops (they sell them as well). They have a rewards program- end up with lots of free stuff!

I recommend this place... great selection, great service... easy and online, and great prices.

Edit- I see you're already there!

DOLLAR TREE!!! They all have a craft aisle and at least the one near me has A TON of little cardboard boxes of different sizes...I was wondering what in the world i could use them for, now i know! AND THEY ARE ONLY $1 EACH!!! They also sell all kinds of hemp and burlap stuff, baby and toddler stuffed toys, blocks, etc., but I'm telling you, if you're specifically looking for smaller cardboard boxes, this is your place...

I personally really like

Welcome to cabirdnerds.com -

I live on the west coast and shipping is a lot cheaper than mysafebirdstore for me (which wound up more than what I wanted to order in most cases). They change their stock often and have some really great stuff :)
