I have had Liela, my black capped conure for about three years, she is about 3 1/2, she has always been very calm and willing to get on my finger when offered as a perch, etc. but recently has been biting when I try to do coax her onto my hand and is almost acting like she doesn’t know me. Could this be a hormonal thing, or something else? Is there something I can do?
Thanx

in her mind something spooked her in connection with your hands. It has happened with me and my GCC a couple of times.

I fed lots if treats by hand, worked on rebuilding trust, and really paid attention to body language . This always smoothed things out for us. Its easy for birds to develop fear of hands . I have had my girls 7 years now, I think our last fear if hands was at 5 years. But sometimes I am petting her , she will threaten me or get spooked, in a few seconds she is over it.

Pamela Clark a parrot behavior person, says to give lots of treats, off and on all day.

Umbrella Cockatoo- 15? years old..I think?
yes to the above, and yes it could be hormonal...heck, could be both.

10 hours sleep for the rest of her life on a set schedule (like a toddler)
no shadowy spaces, huts, boxes, tents, under blankets, etc etc
no petting other than head or neck
at least 3 hours out each day
teach to play with toys etc (but remember, new toys can be scary)

That covers a lot of the hormonal stuff
