Please Help!

Hello there NewBirdie, and welcome to the forum. :)

That isn't a conure at all. That's a Quaker Parakeet. :)

Oh, thanks! Well, I have a one year old and we found it at the park today. I am not sure how to find its owner, and so we considered keeping it...but it seems to be very needy. If I set it down and leave the room it cries for me. It essentially wants to sit on my shoulder all day, which is sweet but not something a mommy can really do....

Thoughts?!

You can make fliers, posters, call your local vet and inform him you found a Quaker. I'm sure his owners are looking for him, and are quite sad that he's flown away.

Does your local newspaper post FREE FOUND ADS? Mine does.

You can also post about him here: Lost and Found - Parrot Forum - Parrot Owner's Community

AND here: Bird HotLine — World Wide Bird Lost and Found

I truly hope you can locate his owner. IF you can't, and you can provide for him properly, please try and find a responsible, loving, caring, forever home for the cute little guy (OR girl). :)

Poor little birdie

You can also use www.911parrotalert.com
and call local rescues and vets.
Also craigslist in the lost and found section and the pets section.

Hopefully you can find his owner I am sure he is being missed

This is difficult-- I don't necessarily want to put and ad up because I worry that some creeper who just wants a free bird will say "That's mine!" but as I scour the lost ads the one that I found that seems the closest isn't right because this bird doesn't seem to have a "twisted lower beak".

Does the bird have a band on one of his legs? If so, write down the number/letter combination. His rightful owner "may" know the band number.

Also, what distance from my area is reasonable for him o have gone?

I agree with you that you can't just give the pretty Quaker to anybody claiming to be the owner, but what if his owner is truly looking for him? What if he got out by accident?

If you make signs/posters, you can write on there that you won't be handing him over to just anyone, that you need proof of ownership. (That could be pictures, an empty cage, etc.)

...I really, truly hope this will work out somehow.
