Hello friends, me and my grandma have been arguing for the past 30 minutes on the species (and because of that even the gender and habits/diet ETC my buddy needs)
Is there any person who can identify or help me identify my (amazon) parrot?
i personally believe he is a orange feathered amazon. My grandma believes he is a yellow headed amazon( and she also believes that and double-headed amazons are two different things, i have heard otherwise but i regret to admit i am also ignorant to such things)

The problem is that amazons look strangely alike and he could be a completely different species for all i know, so please i implore you friends to help me identify so i can start officially training and bonding(just moved in like 4 weeks ago but my Grandma has had him for 30+ years i believe, and she is set in her ways as to what (Gizmo) is as a species.

thank you guys, Cheers!(PS, i can get a better photo if that is required, although he is still VERY scared of people because we rescued him from an abused home)

Welcome to the forums! Gizmo is a beauty!

Yes, orange wing!

But that wont help you figure out his gender, and knowing his species doesn't change how you should train him!

OWA... NOT EVEN A HARD ONE. Gender can only be confirmed by DNA.

Have you read my post on amazon body language?

OWA's and Red Lored's do tend to be on the shy size, for amazons.

Zons, especially zons that haven't been handled much by more than one person, tend to have overbonding issues, and territorial issues in and around their cage/favorite person.

Your Gramdma has had him for 30 years ? WOW

What a sweet looking boy:) Is your grandma giving him to you? Seeing as your grandma has had him for so long (and he looks well cared for), I'm wondering if he's just not used to you or if he's really not trained at all? It's not uncommon for even well trained parrots to be timid and shy around new and unfamiliar people. In an case, I hope all goes well with him!
