Plum headed parakeet colors

Hi. I purchased a plum headed parakeet 5 years ago. Up until this point she has the coloring of the female. A few weeks ago she started changing and is now showing male coloring. Plum on the head is coming in. Black under the beak and the ring is turning plum. Everything I read states these changes occur 2-3 years of age. Does anyone have experience with these changes occurring at 5 1/2 years Thanks

Hello! Yes, sounds like you may have a male. They won't show their true colors under around 2 yrs old. I just purchased a male plum head myself. Not to many people have this species. Could you tell me like about them as far as personality, behaviors, likes and dislikes. Also, is your Plum head very loud? Thanks

has yours had a delayed molt? Sometimes they don't molt regularly, possibly this caused the increased time-line? No experience with the species tho
