Poor little Sun in small cage

This is so sad. Some people need to educated themselves more before getting birds. Pet stores need to educate their customers and get over their greed a little. :(

It is a new listing I am sure they would be lucky to get $200 for him. Probably won't sell at all.
Maybe when they can't sell him they will cal me. I am so sad for him.

Good grief, what a tiny cage! That poor thing. Sun conures are pretty close in size to nandays, I think, so imagining my baby in that cage is just heartbreaking. If I lived anywhere near Dallas, I would take him for sure, but I'm nowhere near Texas. I really hope you get him!

As for health problems, I imagine he's suffering a lot from a lack of essential vitamins and minerals. He probably has a vitamin A deficiency. Vitamin A, after doing research, helps with mucous production. The mucous is made to keep microorganisms from infecting birds, so with no mucous, he's susceptible to infection. Apparently a bird's respiratory system is most likely to become infected, but so many microorganisms can take root in a bird so a lot of things could be happening with him at the same time. You'll have to watch for symptoms like sneezing, wheezing, nasal discharge, diarrhea, feather color deterioration, weight loss, lack of appetite and other symptoms, I'm sure.

I can do other vitamin and mineral research for you if you'd like!

I wouldn't load him with vitamins and minerals quickly if I were you. It sounds like a good idea, but giving the normal dose of vitamins and minerals to any creature starved of them can have disastrous results. Slowly acclimate him to a much better diet.

I know and it scares me because I would never take a chance of making my baby sick. That is a big concern in this case even with quarantine.
They never take him out of the cage. 2 and 1/2 yrs and I am sure he is so wild. Don't even think I am qualified to do this. I woke up with a knot in my stomach just thinking about him. Bless his little heart. I am just sick. I just hope someone will give him a better cage if they do sell him but I don't think anyone will pay their price. Just wish I could let it go and move on. If I did something and made my baby sick I would never forgive myself.

I think that most of the worries are not founded at this point. This is why we quarantine and vet check. I am sure that the bird would be much better off with you, even if you only kept him until a more suitable home could be found if his wildness turned out to be too much. If you are still thinking about him then you should not just let it go, your body is telling you something.

I haven't totally let go....believe me. My daughter "parrotmomma" and I would undertake this together. Between the two of us I think we could bring him around. We've learned a lot from our GCC. She lives across the street. We are trying to negotiate a better price. When he sees he can't get what he is asking I think he might give in. My heart is breaking for this bird. Before my green cheek I didn't realize what little people they were.........I honestly believe they think. God only knows what this little guy is thinking.

dishgal1, I hope you get that sweet little baby :( I worked at a PetsMart and if someone came in and asked to buy our conure, I would have grilled them about how to properly take care of one and if I didn't think they could do it right, I'd refuse to sell the bird. Wish I could bring the little thing home with me as it reminds me of the Sun that PetsMart swindled me out of. I still miss her... Good luck with the bird!

My daughter contacted them and to our relief, the bird does get to fly around the house. She said she leaves its door open. I feel so relieved. They won't budge on price at least not yet.
The guy says they did not get it from petsmart but a breeder. The story is a little fishy. You know how craigslist is.

Have you asked them why they specifically put in the ad that they got him from petsmart if they really got him from a breeder? That does seem really fishy.

The first ad was on craigslist. (Petsmart)..........the other ad was ebay classifieds.....(Breeder)..........Supposedly this ad is for his aunt. Too much contradiction seems like.

They probably think that they can get more if they said he came from a breeder. I would ask about paperwork which they would have from a breeder......see if their story adds up.

The story does seem fishy, but really what does it matter at this point? If they are willing to negotiate the price I imagine this birdie will have a new home. Good luck.
