How can we human beings so cruel to the lives??

beacuse most people were raised beliving animals were objects. Things that you own, and are easily tossed when you nolonger have the time for them, or you have to move.

Its IN the bible, We are put here as the gods and caretakers of animals, they must be respected and treated with care.

Most people forget the respected and treated with care part.

And people wonder why I spend so much time alone.

Heart wrenching. I can't look at the pet section of craigslist anymore, it makes me lose hope in humanity and is very sad. I used to comb through them and referr to the Center for Avian Rehab for rehoming, but so many people are looking for money instead of looking out for the bird's best interests (a good home of course)

I recently spoke with a lady at Petsmart who said she was driving down the road one day and saw a large bird cage on the side of the road. "Wow!" she thought, and turned back to get herself a free cage. There was a parrot inside and a sign that said "FREE" on it. She took them both and I'm sure it had a happy ending, but isn't that just awful?

Oh my! Well I am glad she gave the parrot a home. I try not to go in the pet section to often, but I am still in the market for a cage, so I find myself there now and again, and I always find stuff like this. Eh.

What makes me really sad is that they are actually asking $500.00 for the cage and throwing in the bird for free after they have cage bound this bird for years.

Thanks god for Craigslist, everything has it's good points and bad points. But at least with Craigslist, some of these birds find good homes versus winding up in a rescue center or even worse dead.

I found my Tiki on Craigslist and thank Craigslist every day for her because had it not been for Craigslist, I wouldn't have found her. So yes, it saddens me so each morning when I log on and check Out Craigslist pet section, but I also while feeling sad, I also hope that if not all at least most of them find wonderful homes with people who really care about animals and not their wallets.

That is AWFUL!!

Poor baby! He almost doesn't even look alive in the pictures. That makes me hideously sad & mad at the same time. People who can be that cruel to animals deserve to be put away. I've experienced people abusing animals a few times in my life & have not hesitated to call the police. When I was young, around 9 or so, I went to a local park & teenagers were throwing rocks at teddy-bear hamsters they had bought that purpose alone. I went up to them & yelled, they gave them to me fortunately & then I walked home, two hamsters in hand. One had only one eye left & the other hole was pussing. It was so sad. When I got home, my mother started crying, called the police and the kids were actually arrested once the police saw what he did. The humane society picked them up & got them vet attention. But animal cruelty is unacceptable!! Sorry to rant, but this is one of the only ways to really, truely get me upset.

If I were near them, I would buy the poor baby, but I am sure someone will see the same ad and take action.

no one will, face it, the few decent people are HERE, on this Forum. and thats Far too few people in the world who do care. I bet you that add as been up for ages. I deal with cases like this on a daily basis, and if the people do get into trouble, its rare that the judge throws the book at them. We had a hording case where a women had over 60 cats and 20 dogs, a lot of the animals were so bad they had to be put down. It took a year for her to get into trouble, and that was only for 55 counts of cat cruilty and 10 dogs, and in the end, she only got 5 years probation, and SHE STILL HAS 30 CATS. even though the judge said she cant have any animals for the next 10 years.

It's so incredibly unfair to the animals. How people can be so cruel & selfish is beyond me.

People are products of their environment and this being a disposable society, I guess they figure pets should be disposable as well. That is the feeling I get every time I see the re-homing classifieds here as well as on Craigslist.

We are hopefully moving in August, out of an apartment setting, and I am really tempted to call them up and tell them I will take the bird off their hands, because its obviously not happy... But with just getting Ida, and having 2 others, I don't know. I know that the poor thing would at least be happier in my care, and have a clean cage. Eh! :( Breaks my heart.

please abzeez... Please?.. dont think of me being the one asking.. Think of the bird accually saying that.

noone else will help, I cant, I live in alaska.

I see this every day, not just with birds, but with cats and dogs too. let me tell you, its not fun, watching the owners walking out without so much as a slap on the hand, when we are the ones who have to make the hard choice of putting down an animal that noone else wants because its "broken or defective."

I really don't know if I could. They will want that $500, and I will end up telling them they are selfish, awful people, and that someone should lock them up in a cage. When it comes to seeing animals mistreated I can't bite my tongue.

just take the bird, if its gotten to that point, then they just want the money for the cage. Dont ask me why but its true, they could care less about the bird at this point. just take the bird, Im pretty sure its going to be free.

And if it isnt, Tell them your going to report them to the cops, because, fact of the matter is, IF a bird looks that bad, then they did something wrong, and the cops have to come and check the animals wellfare anyway.

BUT!!! you have to get the address, You NEED to see it first, you need the address.. You have to BE there, to get the cops involved, if you cant get the address, get the cars license plates! That is the ONLY way you can get officials involved.

Oh my god. If only this bird was in Australia. I think I'd have to break it to my house-mates that I would be getting another feathered, screaming kid.

I'm totally with xreinx on this one. If unfortunately no one can adopt this bird, maybe the address could be found out? Someone close by (or just saying they lived close by) could ask to inspect the cage before purchase, get the address and report them? I don't think you'd even have to go to their place, just get an address (or do you have to witness it first hand? I don't know the laws over your guys way). This bird would have a better chance at finding a decent home in a rescue like the RSPCA (or equivalent over your way)
