Powder and computers?

:31: I've had 2 parrots for 15 years, a grey and a moluccan cockatoo. Both known for they're amount of powder. My 3 computers over those 15 years each had the same problem. They just spontaneously shut down. No other common symptoms. Have any of you had this type of problem? The smaller birds don't have much powder but I thought I would ask.

That is a common natural death for any computer. I don't think there is any reason to suspect bird dust would have an impact. Certainly it CAN, but our lungs are much more sensitive to - and much more exposed to - the dust than any of the computer components.

LoL I actually vacuum our computers, keyboard and laptops every day.
Not because of bird dust, but HUMAN TOUCH :31:
My guys laugh at me, but you should see what the heck comes off the keyboards.
I agree with what AD mentioned, makes sense.

Keeping a computer clean of dust and grime may prolong its life... but I suppose my point was really echoed by Antoinette in that the parrot dust is not likely the main source of problematic dirtiness for a computer.

Parrot dust will not damage a computer as one piece of straw will not break a camels back.

Human skin actually makes up a lot of the dust that settles in places. When one strips down a commercial aircraft during its checks we see bucketloads of the stuff under the floorboards. Makes sense I suppose skin is the largest organ on our bodies and it is constantly rejuvenating itself. Next time you take a big breath of air in a public place think about all the foreign DNA you're ingesting.....interesting thought
I clean out the vents and fans on the laptops regularly as well, modern processors tend to get very hot as it is even with optimal cooling.

Hello all, bird dust definitely affects computers. I have a grey and senegal and they are in a room with my laptops, i blow them out with compressed air at least once a month. its good computer maintenance anyway. I've been a computer tech for several years as well from experience i know most people dont blow out their computers ever. the dust usually builds up on the processor heat sink, contacts and the motherboard. it can cause overheating and connection problems. so definitely keep some canned air on hand (vacuuming is not recommended as it can cause static, unless you have an anti-static vacuum.)
