- Buddy our Quaker parrot and Daisy our Cockatiel and Saphira our Eclectus!
I just wanted to update everyone with how things are going with Saphira. She arrived on Feb. 18 at the age of 4 months. I couldn't get near her without her jabbing at me or ruffeling her feathers when I even looked at her. When she did end up off the cage and I tried to help her get back she would give me this horrible loud screech (and she would be in this really agressive fighting stance!).
Well patience has started to pay off....she started to come to my side of the cage in the morning to "talk" to me when i'm eating breakfast so I started to share some with her (and kept my fingers!). So I started to touch her beak when she was eating through the cage bars. Then I started to touch her head. Whenever I enter the room she comes to that side of the cage and I can "pet" her beak and she will play with my finger with her tongue and beak. She comes out on her play gym and keeps trying to get closer to me. But she still won't step up...she starts to get agressive when I try to get her feet on my hand.
Question: Tonight (with her in the cage and me reaching in..which i've done a few times and she's been fine) we were playing our beak game and all of the sudden it's like she drooled on me..a long slimy drool came out of her mouth :11: I've never seen or had a bird have excess saliva. Has this happened to anyone before? Thanks!
