So I have a question. I need to put up a Christmas tree this year but where I usually put the tree I no have my Quakers cage. Would it be okay to put the cage in storage and have my little guy live in the Christmas tree. It's a fake tree and wouldn't have too many ornaments so it's pretty safe. It would be so cute what do you guys think?

Welcome to the forum!
I would not take away his cage, living in the tree could be very dangerous for him. It could be made from something that could poison him, and if you are using lights on your tree, he could chew on them and electrocute himself as well.
Can you put the tree somewhere else, or move his cage to a new location until after Christmas?

Oh dear God no! While that does sound cute, I would settle for a quick photo opt in the tree and then back to the cage!

This would end badly, I promise you. He'll either swallow something, choke on something, electrocute himself, set the tree on fire, eat or chew on an ornament hangar, be poisoned by something he eats...I'm sure there's more with a Quaker, mine would also be pissed if his cage disappeared, oh my...

Yeah, not suggested at all...

You guys are probably right, he is quite the troublemaker. But I will not be swayed on this. I will get a real tree with no ornaments and put his blanket over the tree so he knows when it's time to sleep. Thanks for the reply it was helpful but I feel he should be living naturally in a tree.

Hello, and welcome to Parrot Forums!

Just so you know (on the off chance you're not pulling our legs here with a yuletide prank), some tree woods will be poisonous for your guy as well. So getting a natural tree doesn't necessarily remove all danger.

And how will you know whether or not this tree has ever been treated with pesticides? There are any number of potential dangers to which you may be exposing your quaker, all for the sake of perceived "cuteness". Do you really feel it's worth the risk?

And how exactly would your blanket idea work? I hope you don't mean to just drape it over the tree, as that could be pretty rough on your little guy as well.

Not to mention, as previously pointed out, the stress of being deprived of the comforts of his accustomed home for Christmas season.

You say you won't be swayed on this, but I really hope you will reconsider that stance.

Hmmm, I'm hoping for a Troll for Christmas and not a box of Human Centerism!

Seriously? They can't be really considering doing this?

You "won't be swayed by this" really good advice about not doing something that could potentially hurt or kill your captive bred Quaker parrot that has never lived in a fir tree to begin with?

As stated, I guarantee any place you buy a Christmas tree has used pesticides on them, as well as different fertilizers and such...how do you know they haven't been sprayed for things like gypsy moths? That stuff is toxic as all hell, I had my black Mercedes sedan sprayed with that stuff once, and every panel of my car was absolutely coated with these tiny yellow dots that I couldn't even scratch off with my fingernails. I had to clay bar my entire car, it took 6 hours. So that would be awesome for your bird. Not to mention the tree sap! He's going to have sap all through his feathers and all over his feet! That stuff has to be cut out!

I really do hope you're freaking kidding and I'm just very naive, because this is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard...you are going to get rid of your pet bird's cage and put him inside your potentially harmful/fatal Christmas tree because his cage is now where you usually keep your tree, and because "it will be soooooo cute? Are you a troll or seriously challenged?

By the way, Quaker parrots are from South America. I'm pretty sure you won't find many "living naturally" in a Douglas Fir...

Well, on the chance you're serious look at it from his perspective:

His cage is his home. You want to take his home away, put him in a weird place cuz it's cute?

How'd that feel to you? That'd suck. Especially if nobody asked you, explained it to you or gave you any say.

Around here, we go by the Rickeybird's Rules. In sum, everything revolves around him. We don't even get to have a tree. His flighted majesty makes it impossible. Naturally, I recommend the same to you, prankster, troll, Grinch, or not. :)

It's true, especially with a Quaker. The troll? is a new Quaker owner, so she'll learn eventually. The Quaker always wins, else your ears will bleed!
