When do they start losing the wing feathers? Mango has these little Dino arms (feathers). I’m not sure if this is a baby thing or just grew funny. Thanks!

Hi...he is about 7-8 months and has lost so many feathers - mostly body and head feathers...a couple of tail but no wing feathers. Are those the last to go? Thanks for the December idea...I may improve it - he may hold an ornament! lolHow old is Mango again? Most Amazon species go through their first moult into adult plumage at around 9 or 10 months of age, and replace them once or twice every year after that. The "dino arms" on his wings' leading edges are the alula, aka winglets, my lorikeet is going through a pretty heavy moult right now and has lost a BUNCH of flight feathers, so his alula are showing a bit more now than they normally would. So I don't think you've got much to worry about. Oh and that's a very nice "festive" pic you've taken there, I have it on good authority that it would be most suitable for the December photo of the month contest!![]()
