Hello Fellow Conure Owners..
I have a Sun Conure and she just layed an egg a few days ago.. She has layed eggs before.. but this time she has become fatter than before.. in her chest area especially..
Should I worry ?? Do I stop feeding her ??
I usually keep her dish full.. but she has eating non stop and I am worried.. I took out her dish right now..
If someone knows this behavior.. Please help me and respond to this post..
Thank you ahead of time..

Welcome to the forum, Will. I'm sorry your sun conure is ill.

How long since she laid the egg, was it the first in this clutch?

Eggs are usually laid every other day until the clutch is finished but the exact time between eggs can vary. It's normal for hens to eat more than usual while laying, they need extra nutrition while producing eggs. The swelling, especially in the chest area is reason for concern, it's possible she's eggbound. You can put her in a small cage or crate with a small towel on the bottom, put her in your smallest bathroom and run hot water to make the room steamy, sometimes this will help the hen to pass the egg, it isn't without risk though, according to her condition. In any case she needs to be kept quiet, warm and as comfortable as possible. I would get her to an avian vet as soon as possible, this could be very serious. A vet will be able to determine if the egg is intact and the best and safest treatment for her. I truly hope your girl will be okay. Please keep us updated.

Egg-laying issues are so critical... scary...

Good for you for reaching out!

Thank you for responding..
She seems active and not hurting.. it is just that she wants to keep eating.. should I keep her away from food till her chest stops growing ?? Cause her chest area is fattet than other times she laid eggs..
And she usually sits on the egg alot.. and she is not sitting on this egg very much.. just searcjomg fot food..

Welcome to the forums, thanks for joining!

I am not familiar with this behavior, but if you notice a marked difference from past egg-laying events, there may be something wrong. Best bet is to take Gumdrop to an avian vet, as these issues can be life threatening.

Please let us know of Gumdrop's progress!
