Good morning all!

I’ve been watching video of cockatoos playing with toys so I bought a bunch of things for Bianca to play with.
I just filled her cage with buckets of random things that she can toss however she likes.... but she doesn’t seem too interested in playing :(

At first she climbed down out of curiosity so I was hoping she would have fun for hours. Instead, she’s already back on the branch looking idle.

Any advice on how to make her happy?

Thank you!

You can try playing with the toys yourself to show her what to do. She might never have seen any before. Be sure to act like tossing toys is the greatest thing EVER. Parrots like drama.

Sounds good! It’s true they do like drama [emoji38]

Great thoughts!

I think it's a great sign that she isn't afraid or unsettled. Something that helps the Rb warm up to toys... I weave some of his fave treats into them or situate them nearby. Like a chile sitting on top of a new toy. Orrrrrr... a familiar toy affixed to a new one?

Good for you, for experimenting!

You can let her discover and steal the toys by putting them outside of the cage or near her play area. I put mine on top of the cage abd that makes them want to get at them from inside the cage, then when I let them out they run up there to toss or drag them around. Mine have the breakfast bar as a play area they love to shop the new stuff they find there..;)

The only issue is that her cage is actually a small closet-like room with a glass door, so I can’t put anything on top of it... But I can definitely leave the toys outside where she can see them and let her get them when she’s out.

She seems to enjoy playing if I play with her though, so that’s my success for the day 🤩

Thank you all for the suggestions so far!

My birds can be funny about toys - sometimes they’ll totally ignore them, so I rotate them out and replace them with something else.....then the next time I put them in they may be the “best thing ever” and end up the favourite toy. Sometimes I think it’s just what interests them in the moment. Some days I have to show them how much fun a toy is, or if it’s something that has moving parts I may have to show them that it does something. If I act like it’s tons of fun and try to hide it....then they want it :)

I feel like I have to develop a child-like mind if I want to make this bird happy LOL
