Hello long time no talk. Haha. So I'm in my car heading to go hiking with my husband, my two dogs and my bird and I thought of a great idea! I want to make a backpack with a perch connected to it so it would be easier to hike with my bird. I looked on google and found no such thing. I bet holding him on my arm is going to be quite annoying but I just couldn't leave the poor guy at home. Am I weird? Lol

Chris Biro has something similar that he uses:

thats a great idea!! I would love to do a trail ride with my conure and my horse sometime! now how could I get a perch for that I wonder....

Be careful if making a perch similar to the videos. They are in a popular area for free flight were there are very few hawks. In a different environment that perch won't be safe, a hawk would have a easier target than a bird on your hand or shoulder.

WOW!!! SODAKAT, what a video!! My ekkie doesn't fly, his wings are clipped and he honestly has no want to go anywhere. hahaha. :) We enjoyed our hike, it would have been much easier if I had something like that backpack!! Maybe I can google how to make something like that. It's def awesome!!!!

I once lost a CAG with clipped wings who "didn't fly" so don't be too sure that he doesn't want to go anywhere when you have him outside. I no longer clip any of my birds.

Also, those Macaws in the video are big enough that a hawk may not be interested.

My bird room is a glass sunroom. I've seen my birds in the house, looking up through the glass roof of the room and when I look up to see what they are watching, notice that way, way up in the sky, so small I can barely see it, is a circling hawk. If you live where hawks live, I would use an enclosed carrier like the Celtei.

birds with clipped wings CAN still fly if they really want to. you could use an Aviator harness for taking him outside I am getting mine soon for my Blue Crown and my Lorikeet.
