My Ecleptus love his bird hut to sleep in but seems to be wearing his tailfeathers off because he backs up all the way to back of it and his tail rubs the metal on his cage. Should I try and move more to the center of cage or just try and get him back on his perch at night to sleep.
:green2:

IMO,,lose the hut

henpecked: can you say more about your advice to get rid of the hut?

Huts are a killer of pet parrots, they are exceedingly dangerous yet people unknowingly use them :(

Just take it out, it's better and safer for your bird and his tail feathers will no longer get ratty from it. Try instead to use a platform, some birds really enjoy those.

After reading the prior 2 posts, I'm unclear how exactly a hut could harm a parrot (assuming their talking about the cozy little fabric kinds that tie to the sides of the cage). If your bird is damaging it's feathers because he backs into the hut, the logical thing would be to move the hut (and possibly branch) to a roomier location in the cage. I will say, those "fluffy" kinds could pose a hazard since the bird could rip out and eat or inhale the fluff, but the cotton fabric kind have nothing remotely dangerous about them. I actually made Kiwi his hut (I'm a seamstress), and he loves snuggling in it at night. I used regular cotton fabric, and fully lined it so I could safely use batting inside for insulation. When I wash it once a week, I inspect it for chewing damage (which he hasn't ever done).

When made from fabric that can unravel, it can potentially be dangerous to be bird... They can get their little feet stuck in an unraveling thread, or even worse, their neck...

I have heard of cases where they get caught up in the fabric but I've also heard of it causing hormonal issues too. I would never use one if I had a smaller bird.
