Hi All,

Hello all feathered bird lovers! Well, itā€™s been quite a journey. SassyByrd came into our lives at the ripe old age of one, with O to little trust, she was at a breeders house (we were there to purchase a conure) and she was being passed around to people who had never held a bird. They would promptly toss her on her back and wrestle with her. No hello or getting to know you. She was terrified. So of course, she came home with us. Then my husband ended up with cancer, and 4 surgeries and one total leg amputation later, here we are. To say Sass has had a rough start of it would be an understatement. She has been ignored for days on end by us and has maintained the absolute best attitude. After many weeks of really intensive getting to know you periods, we now have the most trusting loving relationship ever. This incredibly smart & beautiful soul has stolen my heart.

I never thought I could love a bird this much. She is now out most of the day at our business, interacting with and bossing everyone around. Personally, I could care less if she never talked, but she has picked words and phrases up like no tomorrow. In fact, we didnā€™t even know she was considered a talkative parrot species when we brought her home. She is currently cuddling with us in bed and is restyling my hair for the umpteenth time today. If this message contains goofy errors my apologies, but itā€™s hard to beat out a sentence with the green monster helping.

I truly look forward to getting to know you all and your fids. So grateful to have experienced people to converse with when future issues come up. Right now we are all just thoroughly enjoying each otherā€™s company. Take care!

Jen

Well she is absolutely beautiful! Good to see you again :). I hope that your husband is on the mend and that things have settled from what sounds like an incredibly busy time. Looking forward to seeing more Sassy-stories!

Hello Jen, hello Flboy! Good to see you guys. Really missed ā€˜hangingā€ out with fellow fid lovers. I now have 2 handfed (aka handful) young gcc girls (we hope girls) as well. Unfortunately, they were also ā€œon ignoreā€ for quite a long time as well. Jojo & Betty have now reverted back to almost wild. I have been working with them a whole bunch too, but will be making their reintroductions over at the conure forum soon. Those two I definitely need big time advice with! Itā€™s so nice to see familiar faces (and be remembered). Thank you! Btw, I have no idea why/how I came up with ā€œfeathered bird loversā€ in my first post? As apposed to non feathered? And why is Sassy sideways? Iā€™m either becoming more scatterbrained or just darn old!

The time outs likely helped her settle in and also emotionally connect with her new family! Amazons tend to really lock into our emotions and her having the time to adjust and fit in has only helped.

Any Parrot with her past really needs a very healthy diet to rebuild her reserves. Once those reserves are full she will begin molting heavily this late Spring or Fall. I have always loved a noisy Amazon as it is a clear sign to their being very happy. May she continue to open-up!

You have likely read the two stickies at the top of the Amazon Forum, they are worth re-reading.

So very happy to have you back and great big warm Amazon Feather Hugs for both you and your hubby!
Amazons Rule!
