It was 3 years ago today-- February 18, 2010-- that George the Yellow-crowned Amazon passed away. George was with me for 40 years, and was nearly 70 years old when he died. Not a day goes by that I don't think of George. I will always miss his cheerful "hello" that greeted me whenever I came home. Fly free, George.

Aww, RIP George.
I'm happy you had 40 years with him, he sounds like he was amazing.

RIP George. That's along time , if i lost my pet of 40 yrs, they might as well stick me in the ground with her. Can't imagine how you deal with that.

This just brought tears to my eyes. I 'love' it, because of the wonderful bond that must have developed for all those years, i half 'envy' it, yet i do not envy your grief!
RIP to your long time friend.

Awwww this has touched me !!!!!!!!!!
Having a bird for 40 years OMG how do you ever get over it?
You sure have the fondest and the most beautiful memories
Sure George is keeping an eye on you from Rainbow Heaven

RIP George. You had a lot of years together. Ralph must miss him as well:(

You'll see each other again. Until then, keep your happy memories alive. Thank you for sharing. I shared a quiet moment with my Amazon in memory of your friend.

I did the same thing.

Thank you, everyone. :)

Losing George was very rough, no different from losing a close human friend or family member. It was a long time before I could even look at a picture of a YCA without breaking up. I miss George very much, but am comforted now by all the good memories of 40 years of his companionship.

Ralph came along a few weeks after George passed away-- life without a parrot proved to be something I couldn't endure. Ralph is a special part of my life and I'm delighted to have him with me now-- but of course George is always in my thoughts and my heart.

My deep condolences. That's an amazing relationship and clearly a very loved bird.
Thank you for sharing something so personal and touching.

I am so sorry! Wow, 40 years is truly remarkable. You had to have been absolutely crushed and devestated. :(

Reast easy, George....and may you see each other again, one day.

This has me all choked up. :(
