I am new to lovebirds but I got a 13 year old rescue lovebird. he is a sweetheart but he is missing feathers that I fear will never grow back. He does seem happy and playful. I wish to access this forum often so I can make him as happy as possible.
Is it possible that an older lovebird may never grow his feathers back? He is 13 years old and is a rescue bird that has not had much attention the last few years. He seems happy and playful
Thirteen isn't really that old for a lovebird. They can live to be 20 when well cared for. I have a lovebird hen that's 14 and has no missing feathers and doesn't even look or act old at all.
Is it possible he plucked them and damaged the follicles? Where is he missing feathers at? I'm glad you rescued him and offered him a better home. May his golden years make up in small part for his life of previous neglect.
I answered your other post, but wanted to welcome you here in the new member area, as well. I'm happy you rescued a little lovebird in need. He may or may not grow back his feathers, all dependent on the cause and how long the issue has existed. I encourage you to take him to the best avian veterinarian in your area for a complete checkup. Can't wait to see pictures of him. Lovebirds are my favorite kind of parrot.
