Update on our rescue budgies:

They are all fully weaned now, and seem to be thriving. We got the test results back, they are clear of Polyoma and Psittacosis. We have a possible home for 2 of them already, and...

We have found someone who may be able to help us get the rest of those budgies out of there!!! Can we all just take a moment and do a happy dance? How about a prayer that it works?

Very good news! Best of luck! :)

That's awesome news!!! I'm glad they weren't sick with those diseases! :)

As am I. Someone on here recommended I read Howard Voren's book on handfeeding and nursery management, and my copy finally arrived (after being ordered quite a long time ago). Reading it is both heartbreaking and encouraging in many ways, especially as I read details of what to look for, and realize there were things we were doing wrong, advice we needed but were unable to find on the internet. However, I refuse to allow the regret to overwhelm me, as I did the best I could. I am very hopeful that these newfound allies may be able to help us get the whole cage and every bird in it away from him and into safe homes.

You could of asked me as I could of give you pointers. I used to raise budgies years ago....

I am so glad the tests came back negative! And keeping my fingers crossed that you are able to rescue the rest of them. You should feel no regret at all, you have done such an amazing job with saving so many, it may not have made any difference. I think you have done such an incredible thing, and am so in awe of you:)

You did a wonderful job with these budgies, given their condition when you got them and the fact you had never hand reared birds/nursed so many back to health! I am glad they are healthy and hope they all find wonderful homes:)

I think the things that we were doing wrong according to the book we didn't know to ask....

experience under the belt I guess...

I'm just glad they were negative for those diseases.
