Hello all,

I've monitored this site for years but have never posted. you guys may not know me but you've been my go to for info when I needed it.....THANK YOU!!

I could use a suggestion. I have 5 macaws that I rescued over the years and am finally building my outdoor aviary.

Not nearly as big as I want but a good first step for the kids.

I need a source to purchase looong natural wood perches that I can custom fit to the space and I need alot of them.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Ps. I'm uploading pictures in my album via phone and haven't figures out how to edit/turn right side up :-)

Perfect source,,,,your back yard! Bottle brush is safe, so is sycamore, many more in your area, sorry I couldn't find the link!

Looking for a list is a good start. That, and contact any aviary builders. Not even near you if you're interested in DIY, but just to ask what they do. Like what meshes they use for your birds. Asking for prices are useless because areas are always different. If you aren't interested in DIY and want to have it done, asking around your area would be good too...

I also recommend asking for regular old lumber/firewood and taking it to Home Depot or Lowe's to cut it for you. They might charge you OR you could invest in a (chain)saw to cut the wood yourself. :)

Hi there, and welcome to the forums. :) So glad you've signed up!

Since you're in Florida, are you familiar with dragonwood? Our Captain (henpecked) has provided me with the best perches anyone could ever ask for. :D He is also in Florida, and harvests the dragonwood himself.

Let me try and find the link...hold on a sec.

If you would like to send him (henpecked) a message and ask about this particular wood, feel free to message any of the moderators, and we'll be happy to forward it for you. (You'll be able to send your own messages once your post count is at 20 ;))

Thank you for the warm welcome. I'm pretty excited about this project. I had planned a really big Aviary, but alas zoning in Miami is tricky. So for the moment I had to go smaller.

The structure is just about done and I'm pretty happy with it. It's an octagon shape 12' wide and 12' high. I subdivided into 4 habitats for my big boys (my Military got hers a few months ago). I just have to finish the doors and it's time for the fun stuff!!!

I would love to talk to henpecked. I really want to max every inch of space for them.

I sent our Captain (henpecked) a message, and made him aware of this thread. ;)

Thank you much

Henpecked here, lol. I've got a lot of big stuff dried and ready. Have you used the forum search and seen pics of the dragowood i got? I'm 3 hrs from you on the west coast. Get your post count up so you can PM me. Or message wendy and she can get you my phone #.

Hello Henpecked,

Thanks for responding.

I have seen your post and love Dragowood, I bought a play stand of it a few years back and it's held up really well. It's also much easier to work with than some of the desert woods I have.

I'll ask Wendy for your number....I'm working on getting my post up but I guess I'm more of a voyeur, lol.
