2 Green Wing Macaws, One female 14yrs old named babs and a 7yr old Male Named Kiko
I adopted/ Bought, a 7 yr old Male Green Wing Macaw about a month and a half ago.
When I adopted him, he was a little ragged around his tail feathers, Did think much about it because Maybe they were keeping him in a small cage and just didn't tell me.
They said he lived on a Playstand all the time, But you just never know.

When we brought him home all was fine for awhile, he warmed right up too us, and was a sweet bird.
Well one night I woke up screaming, to find Kiko on the floor, I assumed it was a Night Fright.
I Placed him back onto the play stand and went off to bed.
Days went by, no more "Night Fright's" , Then again.

So I got on here and started asking questions, and you were all so helpful, at this point I was starting to think seizer's ( spell check ).

So I placed him into a Cage at night only, and they stopped. I also has placed a Night light in the room also.
So I even went and got him a bigger cage, and all was fine.... Until........

Saturday Aug 30 2014 2am.
My husband was sleeping on the couch when we was woke at 2am with a thud and screaming, he got up too find my Female macaw (babs) who lives on a Play stand 24/7 and Kiko at the bottom of his cage twitching.
He called for me, not knowing I was already flying down the stairs.
Long sad story short, Kiko was having seizers every 20 mins and they lasted anywhere from 15-30 sec.
I was holding him and it was just so traumatizing.
At 9am once the vet's office opened, we ran him there.
There was nothing they could do.
They told us that he must have a Brain Tumor, and that the family who we adopted him from had to have know something wasn't right with him.
The Vet said it didn't matter if we had 10k we could never fix him.

So we had Kiko put too sleep. They said he was such a good bird, that they all took turns holding him, They gave him some Gas to make him sleepy, and he never fought them at all.
He went so peacefully.
They put him in a Beautiful Box shaped like a little casket, and made a Foot impression for me with his name on it.
We brought him home and buried him near a tree.

The reason for my story, is Please Please Please, as for the name of the vet the bird your about to buy, look over the bird very good, as a ton of questions, and or just stay away from Craigslist.

I did look and ask questions, but they had a quick answer for everything.
I did text them and told them kiko had to be put too sleep, they never said anything back too me, How could they not even care to respond.
Heartless People.

Kiko had a wonderful short life with us, he was loved so much.
WE MISS HIM so MUCH.
and Babs is so lonely.:red:

I'm so sorry :( What a terrible, sad situation. I know Kiko was glad to spend his last month with you where he was well-loved and cared for.

I am so sorry for your loss of Kiko:( It is so so tragic when an animal has a medical problem that just can't be fixed. My beardie got a tumor on her spine that slowly paralyzed her, and despite seeing one of the best vets in the state, no amount of money or experienced vet could save her. At least sweet Kiko went peacefully and experienced a loving home with you, even if it was a brief time. Perhaps you could plant some beautiful bulbs that will bloom every spring over his grave in his memory. That's what we did with Tiffany and it was always a beautiful reminder of a beautiful animal.

Ooooooohhhhh so sorry! At least this lovely bird was with a family that wanted and loved him. You did a precious thing, thank you for all you invested in him.

Dear Tooby Too, I was in tears for you. You can be sure you gave Kiko the best life he could have had for the last bit of his life. I know it was a horribly hard decision for you to make. It was the kindest most loving choice for Kiko. Ihave had to make the choice with Olive a bird that was egg bound that the vet could not help, rather than have her die suffering. I know you and your wife and babs are sad but remember Kiko has crossed over the rainbow bridge whole healthy in perfect weather flying all day long and so happy! Be at peace. Bonita

I am so sorry for your loss. You gave Kiko your love and the love of your family which is the greatest gift of all.

I'm so sorry for your loss. On a positive note, his last months and moments were spent well loved and cared for. Please take comfort in that, and pay no mind to the prior owners actions or lack thereof.

I'm so very sorry for your loss and your heartbreaking experience. It's amazing how quickly a parrot can become such a big part of your life and your family. I'm glad the employees at the clinic you took Kiko to was so kind to him and he was with someone who loved him so much when he passed. You gave Kiko such a wonderful gift and I know he will be remembered with much love.

I am so sorry for your loss:( I am glad you were able to give Kiko the love and care he so richly deserved, even if it was just for the last part of his life.

Thank You all so much for your understanding.
He was loved so dearly.. We miss him so much. He was a Beautiful bird with a calm sprit.
We are making a memorial spot for him., with pretty flowers.
I am so happy to have friends who care.
God Bless All of You.

I can definitely relate. I took in a sick hawk-head at the end of February this year. (criagslist - lady said she needed to get rid of animals due to moving, swore he was healthy) He was plucker, and... being nieve, thought it as due to stress and a complete lack of toys. Heck, her macaw didn't even have a perch to sit on. (Said that all he does is chew through them) Despite all the vet care I could possibly provide, there was really nothing else that could be done. I was heartbroken. And it left me scared of everything. Most of all, scared for Mopar, too. *sigh*

So, I am very sorry for you loss.... its terrible. As bird lovers, we want to help all these animals. It just sucks when we are given ones that are in sure dire need of help, and their current owners don't want to help them, and pass it off as nothing.

I'm so sorry about Kiko :). Absolutely heartbreaking.

What you said in the quote above - disgusting how people are  I agree they had to have known. That's why they got rid of him and lied. Did they have the nerve to ask you for a rehoming fee? Again, I'm very sorry.

they sure can be!!! I also reached out to the previous owner of Kimi..... if for anything, to let them know that this bird had a virus that could harm their Macaw. Yep, got ZERO response, as well.

Argh.

I'm so sorry for your loss :( This is a really sad story, but you did everything you could. At least there's that :/ I wish you much luck and best wishes for the future :)

I'm so sorry for the emotional roller coaster you were on, and sorry for little Kiko's illness. Thank you for caring for him and respecting his life.

I think sometimes people can be too weak to deal with anything unpleasant so they dump it on someone else. In the end, maybe in some way for the best because you did care and were strong enough and took care of him.
