Pippin a GCC
I am going to get a GCC soon and I want to know that this is the guy to buy from.
When buying my lovebird I made a poorly informed choice and bought a untame unsocalized bird. This time I want to make really sure I am getting a tame handfed bird who is at least nice to start off with. Has anyone bought from this guy? Where can I find reviews on his parrots? I am willing to pay the high price but i need to make sure I am buying from the right person. Does anyone know of anyother good breeders in Orange County Ca? Please help.

Please help!

Sorry I have not heard anything about this breeder.

You can do a search on this forum, I'm pretty sure this topic was brought up a few weeks ago. I have friends that know Steve, but I don't know him, and they only know him though dog training.

Thank you for the replies. I was the one who brought it up a few weeks ago. I'm still trying to find answers. I have a choice I can pay the 100 down and get one of his birds in the spring or I can wait and see if anybody else has better bird once April comes around (conure season) What should I do. If I act now I know I will get a quality bird but if I wait then I might be able to find more reasonably priced home raised birds.

I don't believe in a "better" baby. Price doesn't guarantee a quality baby the same way a hand-fed baby doesn't guarantee a "tamer" baby.
It's all in the amount of socializing done since birth.
I would try and find a breeder who is ethical, clean, easy to talk to, has pictures of past clutches maybe etc. Correspond through emails or phone with that breeder and you'll get a feel to see if you like him/her. Ask tons of questions!

Buy within your budget. All babies are born perfect. The way he is socialized and the way you keep the socializing is what makes a great companion. The rest is totally up to each bird's own personality as he matures.

Good luck!!

Check out birdbreeders.com to see what local breeders are in the area that may have birds available.

I would also suggest checking out petfinder for rescues. I just helped our birdsitter adopt her first green cheek thru petfinder. He was a little nippy when he first came home, but he had been without much attention. In less then a month, he has bonded with her and is now a really sweet wonderful friend. There are many wonderful green cheeks looking for homes and they are as loving and will bond to you with a little time and patience, just like a baby!

Good luck!!

As far as I know, he sells all of his babies to other breeders/pet stores for them to hand feed and raise themselves. He keeps back newer mutations, i.e. Dilutes, suncheeks, mooncheeks, etc and allows them to be parent-reared but a breeder of this size typically does not raise any GCC babies to sell to the public.

Hi Misty15,
I got my Yellow Sided from Mike in Glendora, CA. He breeds Pineapple, Yellow Sided, and Turqoise. He only have 1 batch of each per year. Turqoises are usually gone the fastest. He breeds GCC as hobby; not a mean to make money. His conures are healthy and has nice plumage. The price is very very reasonable. I am not sure if he has any more GCC for sale this late in the year. If he does, he advertises on losangeles.ebayclassifieds.com. I absolutely love the one I got from him.

thanks everyone I think I am going to wait untill the spring when there are more breeders to choose from.

You should start looking at breeders now. Ask them questions. Find out what their guidelines and recommendations are. See what kind of health guarantee the breeders offer. Then choose the one you are most comfortable with!

how do you recommend finding breeders? Trying to find them out of season in Orange County Ca is like hunting for the invisible man. =)

Local parrot clubs
Local bird stores and breeders

Ask local people for local breeders, if that's what you are after. :) Might get lucky and find someone you hadn't known about before because they aren't a big time breeder.
