RICH,my new IRN

Just want to share my newly acquired IRN. I call her Rich, I suppose she is a she based from the articles I read about Indian Ring Necks. (Although not 100% sure). I acquired her last March 1, 2013, and according to the previous owner, she is about 3-4 months' old ( He is uncertain because he also bought her from the breeder who did not exactly told him her date of birth) anyways, I find Rich lovely although she is not tamed. I hope I can tame her and teach her to talk. That's why I try to look for forums where I can learn something and practice to Rich. This is my Rich...

Can I tame Rich at all, when my time with her is limited? I work during the day leaving home at about 6am and be back at around 7pm. so my time to be with her intimately will be from 7;30pm until 10pm only on regular days (Mon-Fri). But on Saturdays & Sundays, I have plenty of time to be with her.
As of now, Rich wants to be always in her cage although there are times I can see she wants to go out and try to escape whenever I come near her. In fairness she never bites, but I cannot make her step on my finger as she flaps away. lately, I noticed that she has attitude and it is very different on daytime and nighttime. She is so stubborn at daytime and behave at night. At night I can reach her and she lets me scratch her head although I still cannot make her step on my finger as goes away always.

The behavioural difference between day and night is, I would guess, simply because she is tired at night, and therefore both more mellow and more likely to allow you to pet her, etc.

I also might recommend trying to figure out a way to make sure she gets between 10-12 hours of sleep; birds need lots of sleep. I realize with your work schedule this might be hard, but you could look at, say, having a light on a timer to come on at either 8 am or 10 am (as you want her up at 10 pm), or go home and uncover her on your work break. Otherwise she's going to be a very tired birdy when you spend time with her. Though perhaps you've already got this figured out and I'm rambling!!

As for taming her, start out by just sitting near he cage and talking to her, etc. it's important she comes to you on her terms. Once she's comfortable with you being near her and talking to her, offer her some sort of food she's fond of from your hand. Millet is loved by most birds. Keep your hand near the door to her cage so she can come to you only if she's comfortable. Once she's confident sitting and eating from your hand, try removing your hand from the cage, talking calmly to her while you do. Once you're at this point you can try getting her comfortable stepping up (press your index finger into her chest just above the feet, most birds will automatically step up when do this). If at any point she seems uncomfortable, go back a step. It is important that her interactions with you remain positive and that she is not being forced to do anything. It can take a while and a bit of patience but having a bird who trusts you is well worth it

He/She is adorable. If its a Male, then he will start to get the black ring around his neck between 18months and 2 years old. If it does not appear after this time, then you will know its a female.

When I got back home from work tonight, I immediately proceeded near Rich at her cage. She was alone for almost the whole day with just her food in the cage. I checked the food and i knew that she ate well. I offered her a sunflower seed from my fingers through the cage bars and at first she didn't touch. I talked to her and she answered me with soft sound "like that of a KITTEN". I again offered a seed and this time she approached and ate it. I opened the door and offered another seed through the door, and again she got it. She slipped out of the open door and went atop of the cage. I offered another seed but she seemed to attack me and would like to bite me. I thought that this is what they call " a bluff ". I ignored her "attack" though the bite was a little painful (but no bleeding). I just sat beside the cage for some more minutes, talking to her in a soft voice, she answered me with that soft "like a kitten's meow sound" with open beaks.
My question is, for how long will this bluffing stage last? coz, the bite is painful (lol) to stand.
I let her stay on top of the cage and she slept right there (until now she is there sleeping, while I am posting this.) From time to time she wakes up and looking at what I am doing. It is now 8:25pm in here (Philippines)

congrats! they re wonderful birds! make sure she/he gets its fresh fruits and veggies they love them! Also as for gender at 1-2 years in age a male will get a dark ring around its neck and a female wont but until then the only way to know is by getting it DNA sexed. as far as the "bluffing stage" goes well it depends on the bird just be sweet and offer treats when he/she is being nice talk softly and hang out by the cage a lot when he/she bites you try to ignore it and it will stop eventually each bird takes longer to adjust.

You mentioned that you only left food in the cage...do you have toys in there too? Its important that all birds have toys so they dont get bored and do things like pluck their feathers out.

UPDATE:
Rich bit me once but not so hard that I tolerated her. I pursued my taming her and ended up with her stepping up on my fingers, yes! The pain of her bite is worth it, lols...

Rich is slowly becoming relaxed with me. She now plays with me. Whenever I come near her, I will show her a toy and voila!, she will surely come to me... but.. she is still undergoing this bluffing stage, she bites from time to time...

aww congrats! she sure is cute! Also I noticed a plastic perch in your cage, those really arent good for their feet you should make sure she also has some natural wood perches not all plastic ones.
