Right or left footed?

Let's see the statistics! Is your parrot left or right footed? Parrots can and will use both feet, but they clearly have a dominant foot. Penny is so right footed she has never picked up anything with her left. I guess for fun I'll add to the poll for our humans to see if you are right or left handed, then we can see if the numbers play out.

ugh didn't think how to do multiple parrots?? Ugh...well 2 of three here are left footed, with only Penny being right footed.

I've read that 80% of the parrots are lefties, so I am curious what this test will show..

I've read in books parrots are much more often left "handed". And Clark is no different he always eats with his left foot.

Do you think that birds in a group influence each other? That would be interesting...Like, lets say a bird's flock has a lot of left-footers, I wonder if would a right-footed bird be swayed the other direction in order to make interactions easier? Or....could being a lefty have advantages..? lol

I live in the land of sea shells, all that I have collected at least a hundred are left footed, I only have one and it's a monster ( biggest in my collection) that is right footed....

I am not sure if all my large Fids are left footed but I am sure Bella is.
Merlin is left footed.
Despite having Bingo for 30+ years I am not sure what foot he prefers haven't paid attention.

Some of my Cockatiels hold food in there foot but they are very bad at it. Most of the time they drop the food item quickly.

Let’s think about this. Is the dominant foot the one holding the food or the one on the ground. I’m right handed, and right legged, so when I stand on one leg I’m usually preferring to stand in my dominant leg (the right leg).

If I were a parrot, I’d be eating my with left foot so my dominant leg keeps me steady. So I’d be right footed, not left footed.

But they use their feet to manipulate their environment...so it's more a "hand thing" clark usually scratches and eats with his left, which makes me think he feels more dexterity with his left. So he's left handed.

I'm right handed a d right footed, if I want to kick someone , I would use my right foot. For parrots the foot they use to manipulate objects and hold food is considered their dominant. BTW after watching my playful parakeet Cloudy, he uses his left foot to hold the toy down or drag something so I'd say he is left footed too, I haven't seen Clear manipulate anything with his feet yet. So far with ten percent left handed people and ten percent right footed Parrots, I think that's correct. Will be nice if we reach 100 people answering as that will be a more meaningful data point..Penny is definitely an outlier. And poor girl is missing the tip of her largest toe on her right foot and that dang big band on her right foot. I can't imagine the pain and frustration she must have gone through while her right dominant foot healed....she doesn't hold much , the only thing she will use her foot for is to hold spaghetti, or her favorite a splinter of chicken , or to hold her featheres before she rips them out with her beak..

I just did a test, my left footed parrots step up with left foot first, and my right footed Penny steps up with right first too. So you check the dominant foot by which one they step up with first??? Guess those of you voted and know the dominant foot can check and see if this holds true .

Mambo uses both, depending which leg is closer to the object he wants to take:/

I also read babies are ambidextrous till they get older and pick a dominant foot. So I guess second question how old is Mambo? Mambo id a BFA and he’s 6 months old so yeah he’s still a baby!
