Rory ~ A male turquoise green cheek conure ~ Hatched 02-12-2013
Hi All, We just got back from Rory's first vet visit, we found a great avian vet and so excited that our baby is in perfect health. We had a DNA sex test done and we have to wait a week to get the results :( I'm sure that because I have been calling her a girl she will turn out to be a boy, lol! But that's ok I love her no matter what. We switched to pellets over the weekend and boy she is not happy she is searching everywhere for seed poor baby is mad. But she will get use to her pellets. Rory has been such a joy and she is fearless and enjoys car ride on the way to the vet today she road on my shoulder and then on the way home we went through a car was and she didn't even care about all the noise we are truly lucky to have such a well behaved and fearless baby. I hope you all have a great day I will let you all know when we find out her sex.

Glad to hear she is in perfect health! She looks so cute from your sig pic. Make sure you do a gradual transition from seed to pellet so she does not starve herself. Maybe a 3-4 week transition is good.

Fresh veg and fruits are also an awesome part of their diet. Have fun with her!

Thank you I have more pics under my profile in an album. She's been eating pellets all morning. And she gets fruits and veggies daily. She will eat anything I put in front of her. I will give her a few seeds before I leave for work.

I know how you feel about waiting for the blood test results, I just sent mine in yesterday and it should take about a week. I'm so anxious to see if Akiro is male or female:D

MissTaz,

I am so glad to hear that everything went great with the vet! What brand did you go with for pellets? Also, let us know how the transition is going!

BoomBoom,

You couldn't be more right about Rory. I think that she looks outstanding!

We got some zupreen to start I'm not sure if will switch later but she seems to be doing pretty good, when we got home from the vet she sat on my lap and ate a whole bunch but they way they grind up their food I can't tell how much actually got in her tummy. When I left for work I put some apple and more pellets and just a little bit of seed to get her through the day. We will see how her bowl looks when I get home. I know she will have devoured the apple, she loves apple. I think I fall more in love everyday. I can't wait to get off work to go and see my baby!!!!!!

MissTaz,

I am fairly certain that birds do not feed, they frenzy! It is simply amazing to watch the pieces of pellet go everywhere. The only thing that compares is giving my parakeets spray millet. That stuff is like cat nip for cats!

I am not to sure about zupreen. I have had great experiences with Roudybush and Harrison's organic. In my opinion, though, it is hard to go wrong with adding pellets to a diet. Whatever it is you decide to do in the future, I think you are making the right steps now.

I am also glad to hear that you and Rory are bonding so much! That is great. I will be taking pictures of all the baby suns next week. These next couple of months can not go by fast enough for me.

I can't wait to see the picture of the baby suns. I bet they will be adorable. We went a whole day without any biting or nipping I'm so proud of her. My favorite time of the day is bed time I take to bed with me and she lays down on my chest and falls asleep for about an hour or so then I put her in her cage, but I think that has been helping with the bonding. I feel like our hearts beat as one when we cuddle. Have a great night!
