I rescued Rosie, a 9 year old Red Breasted Cockatoo in June 2017 from an old lady who recently passed. She is overweight and a diva, she was smoked around and fed way to many fatty seeds. She says "do you want a cookie, and whispers too. She responds to questions and bobs her head up and down and does the DIVA head swirl. She is soooo funny.

Since I have had her I have make her bird bread from on-line healthy recipes and feed her a lot of vegetables. I bake every week, Its great!

I'm a teenager and have researched many hours about her. I also take her to Burges Aviary Veteranairy service in KCMO. Also, I'm working on getting her weight down, and teaching her some manners.

I just ordered a scale from Old Will Knott Scales it is a veternairian scale and it works for postage as well... And weighing small animals even puppies.

So I'm happy that I have a new friend and I will always love her.

I need some training tips.

I love my bird!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the forums, thanks for rescuing Rosie!

You have correctly identified an issue that will require diligence and patience! Overweight cockatoos are subject to all manner of illness, so you are on the right track. Were you able to reduce the seed intake to little or none? Fresh vegetables and fruits are best, and some birds will successfully transition from seed to pellets.

Weighing Rosie frequently is a great tool to track progress. Best to do so at roughly the same time of day, preferably after the morning "dump."

Welcome to you, it looks like you have taken to your new responsibilities extremely well!

Welcome! This forum is the very best place to get information and also just to share in the joy of being owned by birds. Sounds like you're off to a great start, except we need pictures so please get on that right away :-)

Congrats on your new baby! There's a plethora of information on the 'too forum. I have ever owned a 'too but love to read about them and hear of their outrageous antics!
