Is there a safe screen material to use for wrapping the outside of the cage (to keep in seed and droppings) that can't be chewed up by a parrotlet? I was looking at pet safe screen at Home Depot, but it doesn't feel like it would stand up to a bird beak. They had different kinds of aluminum screen but I wasn't sure if that would be safe, if Lilo attempts to chew it.

Otherwise I guess I'll have to try finding some thin plastic sheets of some sort to attach to the outside. Not quite sure what though.

Is she a big chomper? Can you test her out by attaching something to the outside of the cage to see what she does?

therwise I guess I'll have to try finding some thin plastic sheets of some sort to attach to the outside. Not quite sure what though.
You could use corflute, but I don't know how parrot-proof it'd be if she was determined to attack it....

I just use fabric (shower) curtains, attached with clips. Nobody's tried to eat them.

You might get more ideas if you posted a pic of the cage you're trying to cover.....if catching debris is your primary goal, what about setting the cage in some type of container?

I got some type of chewing toy i at petco. Gosh i cant remember what its called.....

Got it... :)

Anyway i weave this through the bars around the food bowl for my moms budgie cage. Or all around the base of the cage. It keeps in the seed hulls. It looks nice, does the job, and is meant to be chewed.

You can also just buy some plexi glass that would be clear...

Lycra works well. Find someone who sews and get them to make you a cage skirt out of lycra. You can usually get offcuts and remnants at any fabric or dancewear shop but DO NOT get the sort that is shot with metallic or sequins. Just use the plain unembellished lycra fabric: it will stretch around the cage and help keep debris inside.

PS. Any kind of seed skirt will only work if your feed dishes are on the ground. When the seed is placed up at perch level, it can spray everywhere.

PPS. You can also get a bit inventive and make your own seed hoppers from cheap plastic containers. Just cut a hole large enough for your bird to get its head through without any danger of getting it stuck. Fasten to the bottom corner of the cage and it should do the trick. :)

So many great ideas. I knew I was asking the right people. Thanks, I'll have to think about these options and decide which ones to do.

Lilo is definitely a chewer. I accidentally put her cage a little too close to a curtain and she managed to put a few holes in it. XD

I wonder whether that means she'd definitely bother trying to eat "her" curtain, rather than just curiosity at an opportunity to investigate something new and unexpected. Also, can you divert their attention from stuff you don't want chewed by giving her some extra loofahs or something inside?

Do a search on Amazon for seed catcher. You may find what you need.
