Do birds need salt, or do they just like it?

They do eat it in the wild.

Everything needs salt to varyjng degrees, it’s necessary for proper neuron functioning. Parrots need very little, so don’t add any to their food, they’ll get what they need from the pellets/fruits/veggies you give.

Remember, salt, like most nutrients, is also a poison under the right conditions! The trace metals are high on that list!

Salt is so common in manufactured food sources that the needle has switched to limiting salt as part of manufactured food provided.

One of the consistent nutritional massages has been how sodium is the enemy for birds.
It’d be nice if pellets,(mre’s) were an accepted food source, however no such luck.
The bird of the house isn’t a fan of fruit or mre’s so the concern that our mash, (minimal fruit baby food added) and chop recipes were lacking in essentials.
Wild birds seek sodium and so we began to question wether or not we were missing something, so, we decided to come to our trusted source for bird care.
This site has help us to develop a semi-social, mostly mannered bird, and we recommend to those who express their desire to become parront’s.
We don’t feed salted food to the ā€œprincessā€ and would not promote doing so.
Just making sure all bases are covered.
