I finally got a scale to use to weigh my fids. Since it's my first time weighing them, I don't know their healthy weights. I'm hoping somebody could please help me with that :)

S'mores (American Parakeet) weighs 1/16 of a pound (1 oz)
Bartleby (Cockatiel) weighs 6/16 of a pound (6 oz)

Sooo, are they good? I think Bartleby is a bit overweight, because she's big and heavy compared to other tiels I've seen.

Tiels = 78 to 125 gm. Most common parakeet = 30 to 40 gm.

Best to weight after the morning poop bomb and before eating for accuracy.

Your lucky you can actually get an accurate reading - Rosie doesnt give the scale a chance - hahahaha. Going to get a perch to place on the scale and celotape her feet to it - joking!!!!!!! ;)

Would you mind telling me where I could get such a scale? I would love to start monitoring Maui a little more closely, he appears to gain/lose fairly easily and quickly, judging by looks and feel of his keel bone. Right now, he seems to be down some, which upsets me, even though I know it's most likely due to his recent learned flying, I've been told if you can "feel" his keel bone, that that isn't good at all and right now, I CAN feel his keel bone. Some days he eats his formula really well and other days, not so much, but WILL eat a good helping of vegs and fruits and pellets. Other days, he just doesn't seem too interested in either.:11:

I got a digital kitchen scale that measures both in ounces and grams. The smaller the bird the more accurate the grams would be. I got mine at Walmart, I think it was $20.00 ish....

Me and :green2:
