There have been so many posts about people having screaming birds and how it was driving them nuts, well I have to be honest and when I read I thought how could a screaming bird send you nuts. Well Kito has this habbit of when he comes out of his cage in the morning, he does a lap of honour round the room, and he kinda screams. This lasts for about 30 secs and I just ignore it now. This morning however I decided I would listen to it, I mean really listen to it and boy those 30 secs seemed like and hour. I also spent a long time thinking about this and wondering what would I do if this was the norm, and the 30 secs was more like all day, my first thought was simple keep them and work on them, then I thought again of the screaming. What if...........
I had done everything possible for my fid and nothing worked well I have to be honest here I don't know I really don't.

I know all of you are now sitting here with mouths dropped open, but I have to say his little screaming bouts (and there not real good proper screams) have given me another side to it. And while I still can't imagine what a screaming parrot can do to us I can at least have a small idea.

Next time your bird has a temper tantrum, listen to them and try to imagine. I did and it opened my eyes to a lot of questions.

All I can say is I'm so glad that this only happens first thing in the morning and it only lasts for about 30 Secs.

Justs wanted to share this with everyone. I'm gonna try to get him recorded tomorrow.

Compassion is a rare trait, and it is good to see that you are compassionate Peta (((((hugs)))))

I want to hear that! ( taped not real!)

I can totally understand this and everything we were talking about the other day since I live with an Amazon and in an apartment, there are also some mornings for her that are so so loud, hers will last from 5-30 min maybe an hour given the chance if I don't stop her, in the evening it's more tolerable..

I had no intention to offend anyone the other day, sorry If I did, I just said my opinion...

Oh and Peta! My friend (Bucc) is a gentleman for once more! :D (send him a kiss!)

.....Ok! ok Kito, one for you as well!

Ya know I sit here sometimes in my office (supposedly working hard :D) and just think about my fids, its hard to see things from a screamers/pluckers point of view unless we have dealt with it. None of mine have been screamers (thankfully) but just listening to kito do his morning lap of glory made me think.

Before Gemini started plucking, people would say how devastating and upsetting it was to see them pluck, I couldn't understand it, but it really is.

I just wanted to share this. I think of the strangest things sometimes. :D

Compassion is a rare thing; this brings to mind the old adage ... you don't know how someone feels until you've walked a mile in their shoes!

It is easy to pass judgement upon that which we do not know ... it is a little more difficult (and compassionate) to try to sympathize or empathize with that very same person, thing, situation.

You are a gem, Peta! ;)

I taped Roxy and played her back to herself...that shut her up.!!

Hey Karen, where you've been?:p
It's quite long I last saw you around...! ;)

I think that most of us would make your choice, you are doing the right thing!
Just stay strong, I know it's difficult to take care of a person with alzheimer, mostly tires you phycologically..

it felt like an ole hippy and had quality time with quality friends.

For me this is a very big part for some one to be happy in his life!
Quality time with quality friends! That's holidays I suppose, as having a good time always depends on if you have good company!

Yeah, i know of both. I have a plucker, Pikkie, my ringneck and he also took to screaming a while ago. So i have both in one package. I feel sorry for him though, he used to be in a room where he saw us work on the putor and the kitchen, but every time he would scream, my brother thats a very short tempered guy would shake his cage:mad:. Well, i didnt like that abuse, so i moved him to the living room, poor thing, and during the day he is outside, but as i have said in another thread he seems to enjoy it on his own cause he grew some chest feathers!:D

Peta, thank you for this thread, I wish everyone could understand what this is like (without having to actually live with it) so that it is more understandable when it's not bearable anymore...it's easy to judge someone's choices when you are not in their shoes...Thank you again :40:

Minzer you are so welcome. This is just something that Kito has always done, and I've never really listened to it before, its no big deal, but when I really listened I realised just what it would be like with a screamer.
