I just got a little Bee Bee parrot a couple months ago. His name is Kiwi, which seems to be a common name for little green parrots. He has big claws to fill, because I just lost Cruiser, my blue front Amazon buddy of 40 years on Dec 15th. I knew no bird could replace Cruiser, but missed him so much, and felt the daily interaction would help. I was offered Kiwi, who needed to be rehomed, so I took the leap. Much smaller bird. Big change! He is so cute and spunky. But I am still getting used to a different kind of noise. He has a very loud, sharp chirp to screeching range. I would not recommend them an apartment/condo where neighbors are sensitive to noise. I live in an apartment and no complaints yet, but waiting. The others all have chihuahua dogs that yap, so they may be willing to compromise. He is very tame, probably hand raised, and adapted to me very fast. He seems to think my body is like a big tree he can crawl all over and burrow into under clothing. That sounds so sweet and cuddly, but the other thing I am finding a challenge is that when he gets in there he starts nipping, and it can get your attention. He has a sharp little beak with a little hook on it, and it can be like a pin prick, which can leave a tiny drop of blood. I try to redirect him, but he is pretty persistent. He also poops a lot, and his burrowing can pecking can make tiny little holes kind of like a moth, so I have designated one sweatshirt I wear when I take him out. In case I sound like I am a grouch and don't like him, you are wrong. He is really growing on me. He has a very big personality for a tiny "pocket bird". I just want to find out what is realistic in terms of molding his behavior a bit, especially the nipping.
