Hello all. We currently have a cockatiel and blue headed pionus who seem to be experiencing a little separation anxiety. When we leave the room they are in (living room) even to just run upstairs the screaming and squeaking starts. The definitely feed off each other as well, if one screams they both scream. At times we have had to cover the cage of one or the other in order to leave the house without them screaming consistently. Not sure if there is anything we can do to stop this besides just ignoring it and letting them go until they realize screaming wont get them anywhere. Sometimes its hard with neighbors, dont want to make them too mad.

Hi!
Yeah, the ignoring will help some...
As for neighbors, I have been known to bring cookies, flowers... sometimes I would offer to pick something up for them when I was going to the store.
Now we have a house on a big lot, so no worries.
I'm sure you'll get some more suggestions. Me? I have just given in... he yells when he pleases.
Glad you found us.

Salty has a contact call that he gives when I leave the room. i answer it once or twice, then ignore him. I try to wait to re-enter until he either stops or changes to something quieter, and then I come back in. Note: you must be consistent for this to work. Interestingly, he has a different call for my wife, who observes the same rule.
