Hi,

My parakeet, Shadow, passed away on July 14, 2016. I am a composer, so I decided to write music to celebrate her life, rather than music to mourn her death. The piece I wrote is called Shadow: Celebration of a Life and is dedicated to everyone who has lost a beloved pet.

The music tells of Shadow's life from when she first entered the world until she settled into a happy life with us. You can hear the music and get more details at https://SoundCloud.com/freixas/shadow.

I am posting here for two reasons:
  • The members of this forum are most likely to appreciate the muisc.
  • Perhaps the music will help those of you have are dealing with the loss of a bird.

I've attached a photo of Shadow as she was when she came to live with us. She still has her baby cere!

Freixas (Dr.?),
Thank you for sharing that. I could absolutely imagine it describing and celebrating the life of a person, a bird, a wild horse, a tiny butterfly.
For me, it captured all the majesty and strength... and frailty and vulnerability... that is the thing called Life.
It occurred to me that Emily Dickinson's "Hope is the Thing with Feathers" would be a wonderful accompaniment.

Again, thank you!

Moving. The Mrs. is enchanted. My thanks to you.

Welcome to the forums!

Deepest condolences for your loss. Thank you for sharing a deeply touching tribute to your gorgeous little companion.

That was absolutely wonderful! I wish I had any musical talent at all. (I have NONE.) That was very inspiring--it sounds like Shadow had a lovely life.

My deepest condolences for your loss of Shadow. She was beautiful and left the wonderful legacy of music. Your composition is magnificent and a testament to your love for her.

Thanks for joining the forums and sharing a special tribute.

I am so sorry for your loss of Beautiful Shadow.
What a beautiful tribute to her, your music is so beautiful it brought me to tears.

Just heard the music....I also shred more than just a tear...it was beautiful. Thank you. And I'm sorry for the loss of your shadow.
