White-winged Parakeet
I've had my White-winged parakeet for just over a year now and we have bonded really well. He spends nearly every moment we are together on my shoulder. Lately it's becoming a problem because his nails have started to grow really sharp and its kind of painful having him there. I have tried trimming them myself but I'm no expert and he gets really upset when I do it so I usually limit it to 1 or 2 nails per day. I was looking into those sandy perches that supposedly trim their nails whenever they're perching on them but I've read that they can irritate their feet so that has left me weary of them. What do you guys suggest I do?

I always suggest the safety pumice perch, it is smooth on the top and rough on the sides, this way it doesn't irritate your birds foot giving them bumble foot.

My galah Rosie uses a medium and her nails are always perfectly maintained. Make sure you have the right size or the nails won't rub against the pumice correctly. I would think a small would be good for your white wing

I was thinking of getting one of those when I saw them at the store the other day. I usually try to get reviews from people before buying something but I couldn't find any on the pumice perches. Thanks for suggestion!

Those perches are awesome. My greenies little nails were worn right down.In fact I took the perch out because she couldnt hang on to my shirt like she could with the sharp nails. She kept falling off when I do my chores.I like her to be with me so her nails need to be a sharp. It takes a few weeks to see the difference. and they have to actually use them too.So I put it in her favorite spot.

I bought a small for my caique, so I'd say xlarge for a B&G!! :)

I actually don't like those perches! They're cheaply made, I would rather go with a concrete perch instead. It would be x-large for a macaw. IF you get that perch pictured above, you'll be amazed how fast your macaw tear it up in very short period of time. My Lory and Cockatiel had that one pictured above destroyed in no time. It lasted maybe 9 months? Before they ended up in the trash.
