should i get another parakeet!? help!

i have a 1 parakeet which i dont know which gender it is keeps bobbing its head up and down. i think its lonely i am gone often and i think he needs a friend should i he might be younger or i dont know? please help!

With toys, swings and maybe a mirror, 'keets are usually pretty good at entertaining themselves.....

If you like to bond with your parakeet, I wouldn't recommend getting another.

How long are you gone usually? He'll be fine if you're gone for a few hours or so. Just be sure to have plenty of toys in his cage for him to play with. Also, it might help to leave a radio on, tuned to soft music.

If you want him to be really close and bond with you, then don't get another parakeet. Otherwise, he'll just end up bonding with the other bird and he won't pay any attention to you! I have one parakeet, Chipper, and he's doing perfectly fine by himself. I give him a lot of attention though. I leave the house for around 2-3 hours usually, and he's fine.

How long are you gone ? I wouldn't reccomend mirrors to some birds, sometimes they get a little to attached to them and act as if there's another bird in the cage, they might even regurgitate for it. Go on YouTube and put on budgie songs , or buy the cd . While your gone play the cd. Though getting another budgie depends on how much time you spend at home. I have 2 parakeets and they both equally love and bond with me , so it's not really a definate outcome if you get 2 budgies, though there's a chance. It depends on the bird. Though if you do get another , spend more time with them outside the cage
