so my baby girl is turning out to be a real sweetheart, but she seems downright determined to always climb up to my shoulder. will she eventually quit doing this as long as i dont let her up there?

yeah .. slowly train her .. maybe use reward method to train her to stand on other place ^^

If you look at your body as a tree, the shoulders are really the only perches on it, unless you hold out your arms... lol

i agree with both lol but time often means months in some cases!

They learn thta they can not go to the shoulder as long as you don't change your mind and let them up there every now and then. After you have them trained and they no longer try to run up your arm you can place them up there. But it will take time and treats.. Mine love foot toys so you could offer one when he is on your hand.

I used to allow my U2 onto my shoulders, he's never bitten me but has almost taken an ear off of my husband. I've decided to not allow him anywhere close to my face! Needless to say, my husband doesn't allow him anywhere close to his body...period! They communicate from afar!

all of my birds are allowed on my shoulder and haven't had any problems with it! I really dont see what the big deal about letting a bird on your shoulder if you trust them not to bite you.......I just dont believe that you shoudln't have all birds on your shoulder...yes maybe some can't go on your shoulder but doens't mean they all can't! just my opinion

LOL!!! My partner is the same way with Willie....

I don't allow my macaw or too on my shoulders because they're unpredictable!!!

Mr. Precious is usually on my shoulder. He whispers in my ear. He's so funny. Also, if I leave a room he will fly after me & land on my head. I have now mastered dish washing, laundry & vacuuming while he's on my head. It's great for your posture!

Tammy,

You would think otherwise when you have multiple birds flying towards your head...lol...

Luckily it's just my Little Man! I still think using wings to win every game of tag is cheating!

I had a cockatiel years ago that "lived" on me whether it was my head, shoulders, chest or lap. He would nip once in awhile, I called them love bites. My U2 has surgical instruments attached to his face!

she seems to do ok when she is sitting on my hand, but as soon as i try to set her on my lap, she books it up my shirt to my shoulder. She lets me remove her from my shoulder with no problem though but i would like to teach her to just sit on my lap

My sun loves to be on my hand but sometimes i need both hands to do something. It took me a little while to get him to feel safe on my lap and not run up my chest to under my chin. The best thing i found was to offer small toys and paper balls for him to play with. Not sure why the smaller birds don't enjoy the lap at first but they can learn. Just try different toys or give him a nut to crack that will take him a min to do. The more time he spends on your lap the safer he will feel.

Yep, they are like a 2-year old with pliers... lol
