For the last 2 weeks I have made 3 vet trips. One to the local all around vet and 2 to an avian vet an hour away. My baby girl started puffing and sneezing. After 2 days of this to to the vet. He put her on doxycycline. After 5 days with no improvement I took her to the avian vet. They changed her meds to vibramycin, diflucan, and flagyl. After 48 hour of forcing these new meds on her(with 3 really painful bites) she stopped eating and drinking. Back to the vet we went. They told me to give her a 24 hour break from the meds. Today she have some food in the water bowl and I saw her eat. But she is barely doing any of the above. And to top it all off now she bites and runs from me every time I go near her. I have had her for almost 2 years. She was very neglected at her previous residents. It took me a month to gain her trust. Now it is shattered. I am heart broken. Not only is she still sick(waiting on blood work) but now she hates me! What do I do? I lost to birds last month. I am terrified I will loose her too. One was a freak accident and the other was a toxin death.

I am so terribly sorry you lost 2 birds last month. :(

How are you administering all the meds? Is it via syringe into the mouth? And is she fighting you over it like mad? If so, could you possibly have your avian vet show you how to administer the meds via needle syringe into the chest muscle?

IME it is much less traumatic for the bird, and much faster than fussing over the oral stuff. You also always know with certainty that she is getting the full amount she needs.

I am confident that she will forgive you and will learn to trust you again. First let's get her healthy. Best wishes to all of you. :)

She is receiving all meds orally. Fighting and biting as if her life depended on it. I want to know what is wrong and twitch my nose and make her all better. Right now she just snuck into my 3 month old eckies cage and is eating his food. I will let her be as she is actively eating. My other eckie and my GCC are on doxycycline just in case. Ugg I just want her healthy. Thanks for the kind words. Vet mentioned weekly trips for an injectable medication. Might have to do that.

Try putting the meds on a very small piece of bread. I did that with Ruby. Use the smallest piece of bread that will absorb the meds, then top it with a small bit of crushed sweet cereal. Ruby ate her meds up very easily that way.

I tried instant blueberry oatmeal that is her favorite treat . She would not touch it. I will try the bread thanks.

So on Friday we took her back to the vet. She was admitted. They did a bunch of test some of which are not back yet. Xray showed a broken rib. I cries when the vet told me that. To think whoever was restraining her squeezed to tightly. Today she gets to come home still don't have a diagnosis but she is doing better. I hope she continues to get better. We will see.

Oh how traumatic for both you and your little girl! It sounds like you are doing all you can for her--she is one lucky birdy...

I just pray it will be enough.

Did vet test for pfb? Maui is sick too. I didn't know until I brought him to the vet for his barbered feathers.

I am dropping meds onto a piece of bread... He is eating it up. How old is he?

She is 5. Wont take the meds with food. Tested for every thing imaginable. I should get results back around Tuesday.

Sorry to hear your baby is sick also. I hope Maui recovers fast.

Sorry to hear this, I hope all the baby girls get well soon

So Mimi has been back home on zythromycine for a week now. She is doing so much better. The zinc and lead test were negative. Liver and kidney function indicate an infection but are OK. We are still waiting for the chlamydia test. All is well with George and Mina. The 4 month old eckie and the GCC. She is eating and only sneezes rarely now. 2 more weeks of the zythro to go. Hopefully that will be that. Thanks for all the suggestion and caring comments!
