posting for a friend~

I have a male rescue parrotlet who has not felt well the last couple days. I have had him since November. He has either been sleeping or eating non stop. The eating borders on obsessive. He is also fluffed up. I took him to the vet last night. They did a fecal which was normal. They didnt want to draw blood because of stress and she said he is a little thin. Unfortunately I had not taken him to the vet prior to this. She agreed something was wrong, the only unusual thing was there was fluid (like water or saliva) in his mouth when she examined him. I have him under a heat lamp and she gave me antibiotics for him. He either stays as close to the lamp as he can or eating like a maniac. Has anyone experienced this before? I am very concerned. Thanks for your help.

Millet, millet and more millet. From what I am reading they say to free feed millet any time a parrotlet is under stress. I will try to find the book and see why but this was written by one of the biggest breeders in the US. It cant hurt to offer.

what are you feeding him? As I understand parrotlets should not eat pellets. I just remember reading it somewhere
Keeping him warm is the best thing for him right now, and hopefully the antibiotics will help.
so both gram negative and positive came back ok?
...and his poop is ok?
how underweight is he?

If he's eating plenty of food, his diet may be lacking something that he requires.
I came across the same situation with someone else who owned a parrotlet, and it was a nutritional deficiency that was the cause.

i believe he eats seed/fruit/veggies~ unfortunately she doesn't have a start weight...I think its the nonstop eating and not wanting to go to her that is so unusual, waiting for an update from her

Crimson, do you remember what the nutritional deficiency was?
