Hi guys,

Just curious to hear about your sleep cage set ups. I just bought a new cage and thought I'd use the smaller old one for a sleep cage to hopefully decrease cage aggression. What do you have in there? Where is your sleep cage located?

Thanks :)

If I used a carrier, then the carrier may or may not have a perch in it, and moved to a dark room at night. The bottom was usually covered with paper.

If using a cage, it would have a minimum of one perch and maybe one to two toys, but I didn't provide food and water - that Charlie would get in his main cage.

Most birds typically sleep throughout the night so wouldn't require food and water, but some owners do still provide that.

This is a good question. I have been thinking about getting a smaller (but not travel size) cage so we can take Basil to the lake with us. I would consider using that as his sleep cage to ensure he gets quiet time when sleeping (away from family room where my husband sometimes watches tv after birdie bedtime).

If you really want to use a "sleep cage",My suggestion is get a GOOD travel cage and use it for a "sleep" cage.Put it on top of the regular cage and he's sure to start sleeping in it. His regular cage needs to be changed every month or two. Move it to different locations but keep it near the center of activity. That's what i do to new rehomes who've been cage bound too long.( i realize most people don't have many cages to chose from) A travel cage also works great to take them out for a bath or a few minutes of sunshine. When you need to use a travel cage it's so great to have them like it and be easy to handle in emergency or a long trip. That and your more apt to take them places and do more things with them.
