I bought a new perch for Gus last night, but as it turns out he's not able to grip it well enough and kind of slides all around it when he uses it. Does anyone here have any suggestions on something I could wrap around it that makes easier for him to move around on it? I was thinking maybe wrapping it tightly with twine or some kind of fabric. My wife suggested the grippy material you put on the floor of a shower, but I wasn't sure if that would be okay for his feet.

Any ideas?

What your wife is thinking of is a product called 'vet tape' or 'vetwrap' & you wrap it around the perch much like wrapping an Ace bandage.....yhe only think to remember is that you will need to refresh the wrap as Gus dirties it up.....

Probably your quickes source would be to google either term.....

Good luch.....

Vet wrap would work, go to any "feed store" or horsey store they will have it, I have also used sisal to wrap around slippery surfaces but it can be a pain to clean~
If you have a drill you can go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a wood rasp, it will scruff up the wood, but rememebr manzanita wood is very hard so you may neeed to get 2 bits, it works great on PVC as well.
Here is a link, but the one I bought was only 1 bit not 5 and it cost $3-4, it was the one on the far left.

eazypower 5-Pieces 1/4 in. Shank Rotary Rasp Asst-30401 at The Home Depot

Rosie has a java wood perch that is a little slippery, I used rough sand paper and it helped a little. It needs more though since she has a bad keg. I may end up using vet wrap.

Definitely vet wrap. You can purchase it at most large pet stores, Tractors Supply carries it and it is also sold for human use too and I have seen it in many stores.

Yeah, one of our local pet stores has some Vet Wrap, so I'll pick some up tonight and try that. Thanks for the suggestion.
