I have somehow fallen in love with parrots by way of a small green terror who came into my life several years ago. The green terror is an elderly Senegal parrot whose owner died. Hawkeye the Senegal is, I have to admit, a particularly bad-tempered bird, but he does love me. He unfortunately hates everyone else in my life. Well, except for my mother--he kind of likes her.
The problem is, he's cute and beguiling and charming with me, and everyone wants to hold him and experience his little cuddly purr...but there WILL be blood.
So I would like another bird who is younger and has a better temperment, someone who will both give Hawkeye some companionship (from a distance, of course) while I am working and who also will be more interactive with my partner, his daughters and other friends and family.
I have settled on the Pionus as the right way to go. I would love a Blue-head Pionus, as they are indisputably lovely, but I also like the Maximillian Pionus and the copper-winged (can't remember the name). Not so keen on the appearance of the White-headed for some reason.
I can't find any available through New England rescue orgs or even on Petfinder. Does anyone know of a breeder...or more to my liking, a Pionus who needs a home? I live in Massachusetts but can travel to anywhere in New England. I really would prefer a mature bird rather than a baby, too.
