I care for and manage a bonded pair of Parrotlets.
So I have taught my boy to copy some sounds, in the mornings I always say good morning softly and I wait for a sound before I lift off their covering. Usually it's a very soft little tribble sound then off comes the cover I like giving them that itty bitty bit of control. I think its respectful and fair. It works very well with us.
A couple of weeks ago, after the cover comes off, OP started to zoom over to my face and he gives me a big smoochie, it is hilarious because these guys have such tiny lungs and their sounds are tiny but the smooch that comes out of him holy smokes, Its just like I do it. So fun how can you not love that. He just decided to do that himself.

Some time ago I was considering adopting a Zon from a rescue, but I am not young and he may have
another 40 years. I thought long about it....plus if something happened to me it would be too much for my husband to take care of. I knew if I went to meet him it would be difficult. So this is where I am at with that. I gave him a great Christmas pressy though I sponsored him for a year, plus I donated to the general stocking fund which was so cool to do....so glad I did. they made up all these little bags one for each bird there, and every one got one it was a joy to be part of that. They posted a picture of big boxes with cello bags full of goodies tied up with ribbons and type of bird and they were delivered on Christmas Eve. I am very sad this older Zon is still there oh my heart!

What a wonderful idea it was to sponsor in lieu of adopting! I'm in my (increasingly!) late 50s and I'd be pretty leery about adopting a long-lived species at my age too, what a great alternative sponsoring is though :) I have a great little smoocher in my flock too, Lovejoy the lorikeet. He says "smoochie smoochie" and makes the requisite very loud "kissy" noises to accompany the words, it's just the cutest thing ever! Please give your Opie a big smooch from me, won't you?? 😘 😘 😘

Very cute. Did you donate to Greyhaven, by chance? If so, which birdie did you sponsor?!
